Santana1979:

There's not much I can add to what M4E stated above; Le puso la tapa al pomo!

FL is not very Dominican unless you go to the Allapatah Section of Miami; There on 17th Ave. they even have a Parque Juan Pablo Duarte.....Our people have never migrated to Florida in large numbers...Florida in Miami-Dade, and Broward is mostly Cuban, Central American, South American; Or, in Central Florida around Orlando metro, Puerto Rican.

Miami, Ft. Lauderdale,Tampa, and Orlando are as crowded as St. Nicholas Ave at 4:00 P.M or Fordham Rd. You know you drive three block and the light tuns red.....

If you're looking for a home to buy it's presently a buyer's market...So, you decide what the price will finally be; Folks are hurting due to the slow economy.

I'd say the best place for un compatriota looking to get away from the hustle and bustle would be either, Port St. Lucie, or Stuart; Both these are small towns on the Atlantic Coast. Tampa is almost straight accross the state on the Gulf coast. Also, Lake Okeechobee is directly inland from these two towns. There you'd be halfway from Miami, Tampa, and Orlando! Smack dab in the middle.
It's just north of Palm Beach (40 - 50 miles) where you can get your Viveres, or go to a Restaurante and eat like at home.

P.S. Be prepared to work for less salary in Florida. Keep in mind that A/C is needed for at least 8-9 months a year! If you still decide it's Florida. Come on Down!

WPB is dying a slow death and has a high crime rate. Ditto the Port St. Lucie and Stuart Areas.

As they close the sugar mills the Lake Areas will whither and die.

Tampa is the Newark of Florida and Orlando is just strip malls and T-Shirt shops. Anything north of there is just South Georgia.

Pretty much anywhere out of the Miami/Ft. Laud. areas anything Latin will be just Taco city. Except Orlando which has 'ricans.

SW Florida, Naples, Ft. Myers, is still vibrant in spite of a high foreclosure rate. Those loosing their homes are mostly retirees. They added little to the economy so their loss has hardly hurt the area. If i had to leave Miami-Dade county that is where I would go.

OF course that all depends on your financial situation.

SW Florida's all right...I have relative in Fort Meyers so I'm very familiar with the area. There's a small but vibrant Latin community there and the various latin groups there, including the Dominicans, seem to get along much better than practically anywhere else I've ever been here in the States and the city has a charming downtown. Last time I was there I noticed an influx of recent arrivals from Puerto Rico coming in but the economy of the area might've put a damper on that one. Like Mr. C. said, a very high rate of foreclosure, though I wouldn't say its just retirees who have lost there homes.

yes I know what you guys mean I never liked miami, because of the crowd but definetly, new york is getting very expensive, and ther is no quality of life, everything is a hurry and a rush.

I was looking at a place called viera and palm city next to st port lucie looks like a nice area, good schools for my daughter.

see the good thing about south east compare to souhtwest is that lets say if you live in st port lucie you have 2 international arports, you have disney world one hour or two, and you have south beach 2 hour drive, if you just want to dirve with your family and go to the beach.

also some spanish food, spanish restaurant. I dont know if fort myers is like that.

another thing hows daytona ????

You'll find spanish food in fort meyers and the schools down there are pretty good. My sisters lived there for a while and I honestly think that they got a better education there than they would've here in NYC. The accent they came back up with, though, was annoying. What the hell is a "thingie"? LOL
