There are quite a few Dominicans in Dallas & Austin, Texas (and yes I know it's the south) The ones in Austin were actually trying to initiate a meet-up on dr1, and I was visiting in Austin at the time..I wish it would've happened..I was going to move to Austin so I was happy to know that many live there. I'm in Kansas (Wichita-the biggest city in Kansas w/ the highest population..even compared to Topeka, the capital)..and i've only met 2 dominicans here...there are more in kck i've heard/red and other regions of the midwest. |

I have lived in the suburbs of Chicago and have met only a few handful of domincans and of course the only time I see a huge concentration of them is at "El Sitio", which I have only been there once. Dominicans in Chicago are all over the chicago neighborhoods and even in the suburbs. I remember we use to have the dominican festival years ago; I wonder if they still host them?Does anyone know if they still have a dominican festival in Chicago?? |

Xwill would be the guy you want to ask. He is a resident of the area. He did mention that thier is a dominican get together during the summer time in El Sitio. Check with him. Conocer al cojo sentao! I like El Sitio a lot but prefer the more family atmosphere at Tropical Taste sometimes. Makes me feel like I'm in a house lol and the food is a bit better, fresher. When I want a close alternative to Haitian food and my moms not cooking I often go down to Tropical Taste. Also the Dominican rest. make stuff Haitians don't cook often like rabo and its practically the same just a little diff, like much of our food can be at times. Anyways people are real nice at both places. There's another one I just found called Thamara on Kimbal and Palmer. Pretty decent but kind of confusing, odd menu. its like a regular fast food place gyros, fries, burgers etc, part jibaritos, and a random Dominican menu on the side. The guy I'm guessing is the owner is the same guy from Punta Cana awhile back. Edited on 5/13/2010 10:30 AM by eddiearkadian. |

Thanks for the info but i think the main part of the disscussion was concerning dominican festivals. do you have any info on dates and location? Back to what you mentioned i will consider the locations for restaurants. Conocer al cojo sentao! Las Aguilas son Las Aguilas!!!!!!!! |

Probably 2% of Chicago's population is dominicans. There's more asian people than there is dominicans. Now if you call 2% of something large there's something wrong with you. Looking for dominicans in Chicago is like looking for a needle in a haystack. It's very rare. |
