10 Demands Being Made By The Wall Street Protesters
Alex Howe | Sep. 28, 2011, 11:51 AM | 216,394 | 80

Plagued by media coverage alleging a lack of focus or agenda, the ongoing Wall Street protests have now produced at least one provisional list of demands.

The grievances, collected by an n+1 writer, range from the vague and impossible to the specific and pragmatic. The people behind the list do not claim to be representative of the protesters as a whole, but it's a start.

Check out the full n+1 piece for a refreshing, honest take on the protests. The writer acknowledges that participating feels somewhat like a "cliché," but makes a good point about the sentiment behind the movement:

"Compared to other large-scale protests I’d attended in my life—the WTO protest in Washington D.C. in 2000, various antiwar protests throughout the early aughts—the aggravating causes here were less abstract. These were not Americans decrying foreign policy. They were Americans in debt, Americans out of work. This 'day of rage' was inspired by personal injustices, best illustrated by anecdote rather than data."

  • Smash the Wall Street bull

Repeal the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling that let corporations give more money to politics

    Widespread debt forgiveness

    Pay-as-you-go military intervention

Pass a Tobin tax A Tobin tax would probably hurt Wall Street bonuses and curb high-frequency trading, and might harm speculative market moves in general. Basically, politicians like to wave around the possibility of such a tax, but it seems very unlikely that it could ever be implemented.

    Universal care centers

    Reinstate Glass-Steagall

    Paid sick leave

    Increased political transparency

Negative income tax (or social wage) Outlandish as it may seem, a negative income tax has been advocated by none other than Milton Friedman.

    Full employment

Proof of dreadlocks Bigotry.

"Occupy Miami" Camp-Out Will Begin Oct. 15, 700 Arrested In New York
By Michael Miller Mon., Oct. 3 2011 at 9:00 AM

A protester in New York. But will they turn out in force in Miami?
?They came. They saw. They arranged to convene at a later date.

Ar-Miami-geddon didn't happen, but more than a hundred "Occupy Miami" protesters did meet on Saturday in Bayfront Park downtown. They agreed to gather again this Saturday to plan a camp-out beginning on October 15.

With 700 protesters arrested on Saturday in New York, and similar demonstrations underway in a dozen other cities around the country, Miami could soon be a node in a national citizen uprising. But what do protesters here want?
When we asked organizer Daniel Lopez on Friday, he couldn't quite say.

"We are protesting many things," he said. "There are just too many issues at hand to get specific at the moment."

Demonstrators in NYC have slammed the corporate take-over of American politics (see Citizens United v. FEC) and the nation's growing inequality.

Video footage of Saturday's "Occupy Miami" meeting, however, shows protesters in the Magic City are angry and ambitious, but have yet to rally around a single message.

Part of the problem is this neon-lit pleasure strip in which we live. "Occupy Wall Street" has a natural enemy in the epicenter of the financial crisis. What does Miami have to rail against?

Debt. Lots of it, from the voices on the video.

Whether or not that will be enough to bring Miamians out in force in two weeks, we'll have to wait and see.

Proposed List Of Demands For Occupy Wall St Movement!

Posted 8 days ago by LloydJHart (Vineyard Haven, MA)

Demand one: Restoration of the living wage. This demand can only be met by ending "Freetrade" by re-imposing trade tariffs on all imported goods entering the American market to level the playing field for domestic family farming and domestic manufacturing as most nations that are dumping cheap products onto the American market have radical wage and environmental regulation advantages. Another policy that must be instituted is raise the minimum wage to twenty dollars an hr.

Demand two: Institute a universal single payer healthcare system. To do this all private insurers must be banned from the healthcare market as their only effect on the health of patients is to take money away from doctors, nurses and hospitals preventing them from doing their jobs and hand that money to wall st. investors.

Demand three: Guaranteed living wage income regardless of employment.

Demand four: Free college education.

Demand five: Begin a fast track process to bring the fossil fuel economy to an end while at the same bringing the alternative energy economy up to energy demand.

Demand six: One trillion dollars in infrastructure (Water, Sewer, Rail, Roads and Bridges and Electrical Grid) spending now.

Demand seven: One trillion dollars in ecological restoration planting forests, reestablishing wetlands and the natural flow of river systems and decommissioning of all of America's nuclear power plants.

Demand eight: Racial and gender equal rights amendment.

Demand nine: Open borders migration. anyone can travel anywhere to work and live.

Demand ten: Bring American elections up to international standards of a paper ballot precinct counted and recounted in front of an independent and party observers system.

Demand eleven: Immediate across the board debt forgiveness for all. Debt forgiveness of sovereign debt, commercial loans, home mortgages, home equity loans, credit card debt, student loans and personal loans now! All debt must be stricken from the "Books." World Bank Loans to all Nations, Bank to Bank Debt and all Bonds and Margin Call Debt in the stock market including all Derivatives or Credit Default Swaps, all 65 trillion dollars of them must also be stricken from the "Books." And I don't mean debt that is in default, I mean all debt on the entire planet period.

Demand twelve: Outlaw all credit reporting agencies.

Demand thirteen: Allow all workers to sign a ballot at any time during a union organizing campaign or at any time that represents their yeah or nay to having a union represent them in collective bargaining or to form a union.

These demands will create so many jobs it will be completely impossible to fill them without an open borders policy.

PROTEST
Occupy Miami plans take shape at Bayfont Park meeting

There's a lot of hand-raising in a leaderless movement. -- photo by Rajiv Sankarlall, courtesy of Beached Miami.

On Saturday afternoon, between 100 and 200 local activists met in Bayfront Park to vent their anger at corporate greed, cuts to education, the bank bailouts, the Federal Reserve, unemployment, and innumerable other issues.
Dubbed Occupy Miami, The leaderless collective is taking a cue from Occupy Wall Street, an ongoing protest against corporate influence on U.S. politics (among other things) headquartered in the heart of the Lower Manhattan Financial District.
Watch the video below to hear several of the would-be occupiers air their grievances. To read a full recap of the gathering, check out beachedmiami.com.

i met up with a fellow poster over the weekend.his opinion of anthonyc is that he is just a prankster, who posts to irritate others. i told him that i had posted the same thing on several occasions, based on my belief that NOBODY can be as cretinous as he is, in all seriousness. Einstein pondered the question about the limits to human stupidity. had he read some observations from anthonyc, his equivocations would have been rapidly dispelled.
