In my opinion, the only reason he won was because someone forgot to tell Clottey to make Cotto's eye his main target.....fort the body, the uppercut....go straight to the eye. I still think Cotto won, but if they would've given it to Clottey, I wouldn've been ok with it......100 dollar poorer but ok nonetheless. Cotto always faces top 10 ranked opponents, with two or three exceptions I can think of in the last few years (Alfonso Gomez, Michael Jennings) . That is 18 straight fights since 2003 almost all at the top level between 140-147. In fact Cotto's resume is vastly superior to Mayweather at both 140 and 147lbs in that period. More activity and better opponents. It is also better than Shane Mosley's record since 2003. Given that we know Margarito was a scumbag cheater, and that Cotto holds a decision win over Mosley, I would call Cotto the shadow champion of the division. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=33535&cat=boxer Pz out everyone! He beats who they put in front of him and is already an overachiever many times over. You are right he is the example for boxing, a guy always looking for a challeneg, not just a payday. Which brings us to 'Money' Mayweather. I do respect the fact that he probably would defeat everyone in the WW rankings (except Paul Williams) .... however except for Hatton it has been years since Maywetaher faced anyone top 5 in their division when they fought. Even Hatton is questionable now that he has been exposed. Hatton was carefully guided to the top at 140lbs and used all the homefield advantage and hugging possible to defeat an old Kostya Tszyu! That was his only 'impressive' win. And Mayweather did not even fight Hatton at his own weight. Edited on 6/16/2009 5:12 PM by Manhattanite. |
