i concur whole heartedly with you, Devin. because once they got a good punch in, the fights would be over. the Euros exemplify the old bromide "you can give it, but you can't take it"

i am skating on thin ice, way out of my depth, engaging in a conversation about boxing with the likes of Tupapaupa, Manhattanite, and Devin. however, Devin opines that Lennox had the most powerful right hand, ever. i cannot dispute that, but how would any of you fellows rate the firepower of Cleveland "Big Cat" Williams? weren't those days great for the heavyweight division? Tupapaupa, remember old timers like Ernie "Trees" Terrell, and the like? today , i cannot even bother to watch a bunch of 9 foot tall Ukrainians bleeding all over each other
Terrell was the MAN.....ok, so he didn't have the knockout punch, but what at jab.

I am telling you, I think, in his prime, he would had beaten BOTH Klitschko bothers THE SAME DAY!

again, as i said before, i am not any kind of authority on boxing, but just an ardent fan. but, i belive that despite their humongous sizes, these current guys would not have lasted too long when Foreman, Ali, Frazier, Kenny Norton Sr and Larry (The Easton Assassin) Holmes were plying their trade. by the way, Tupapaupa, here's one for you; remember John (The Beast) Mugabi? how about my homeboy Mike( The Bodysnatcher) McCallum? any thoughts?

If Hearns didn't have a glass jaw...we'd be talking about him as one of the top three boxers of All Time, regardless of weight classification.
Let me tell you my opinion about Hearns.

If he weren't so fricking "in a hurry", wanting to knock everybody out in the first round, with his height, reach and talent, he could've been, BY FAAAAAAAAAAAR, the best boxer that ever lived!.

That's my opinion about The Cobra.

What he did to Duran, holly shit, was AMAZING.

5 minutes after getting off the canvas, Duran was still asking "what happened, is the fight over already?".

Hearns really knocked that stupid smile off Duran's face. Tommy was a game fighter in his time, an inspiration to watch.

Glass jaw is true in its own right but let me throw out some names. marvin hagler, wilfredo benitez, iran barkley, juan roldan, sugar ray leonard among many. hearns quality of opposition was among the best of all time.

Mugabi was very much loved by me.......but someone should've have told him to move his head to the sides!.....Had he done so, he would've been much better than he was.

I did felt very sad when Hagler beat him, even though I was a huge Hagler fan.

Now, why do you have to go talking about McCallum?.

I used to like him UNTIL he kicked Donald Curry's ASS......I was a BIG Curry's admirer........and after that fight, he was never the same.

Shit, I can still see the punch going his way, BOOOOOOM!.

I still would like to see McCallum's REAL birth certificate, though.........because when he claimed he was in his 20's, he looked as if he were in his late 40's. JAJAJA.

Btw, all those Heavyweight you mentioned, in their prime, would've eaten Wladimir for breakast and Vitali for dinner!.

RE: DT.com Boxing Lounge: UFC 100
Thanks for the vid yumnuk!

Lennox Lewis ... avenged his losses and defeated every man he faced. Devin no more needs to be said. In this weak era the people can only dream of having Lennox back after underrating him. Also let it be said that when he fought Vitali, the superior Klitschko, he broke his face open.

Well the Wladimir title defense was exactly what I expected. Yawn. Luckily they also televised this weekend a great little brawl in Montreal, Adrian Diaconu vs. Jean Pascal. It was an action fight as both fighters have very open styles. Check for the replay, in the US it was on VERSUS cable channel. I trumpet the welters every time boxing comes up but these two guys and many others fighting at either 168 or 175 are also a deep roster.

Also there was a good MMA bout Saturday night I'd recommend, lightweights Diego Sanchez vs Clay Guida. Turned into a boxer vs. wrestler style of match, but with a great pace even in the grappling portions of the fight. The re-air of that should be on SpikeTV.
