He never tested positive for steriods and there is no evidence that would suggest otherwise. As far as the cork bat insident goes, i believe his explanation. He accidentally picked up his batting practice bat. All his other bats including the ones he used in the past were x-rayed and none were corked. PS: There have been experiments done that show a corked bat actually decreases the distance a basebal travels when hit by such compare to balls hit by standard bats. |

He's a cheater and a liar and all he's done is tarnish MLB with his involvement in the 'steroid era'. I never really liked Sammy to begin with but after everything that has happened (I am an avid baseball fan and the steroid controversy gave the game and its players a bad name), I do not care in the least for "slammin' Sammy Sosa" or whatever it is he decides to do with his life. And if he thinks he will participate in the WBC, he has another thing coming because I highly doubt they'll allow him to. |

He will most definately not get in. Ever. I agree with ^^ (forgot the name, sorry). As the voting goes, in my opinion, anyone whose name is remotely involved with steroids, will not get in. Its a shame, too, but that is just how things have become. |

He's a cheater and a liar and all he's done is tarnish MLB with his involvement in the 'steroid era'. I disagree with Sammy Sosa being a liar, cheater, and an embarrasment to the DR and it's people. Like Kokoloco mentioned, Sammy never tested positive for steroid use, so I think it's unfair to hold that one against him and I also believe his explanation for the "cork" incident and he proved himself when all of his other bats were x-rayed and found clean. Even if the cork incident thing would have been true, let us not forget that he broke Roger Maris' record right after McGwire, (who actually did test positive for steroids) before that cork incident thing even happened. Also, Sammy Sosa is one of the few Dominican baseball players along with Manny Ramirez and Alex Rodriguez, that belong to the 500 Home Run Club. Now, I respect people's opinions and Sammy was actually not one of my favorite players nor did I follow his teams either, but I think it's a little too much to go as far as saying that he is an embarrassment to the DR. Todo lo contrario. I hope I'm wrong about this, but I do agree that he will probably not make it into the Hall of Fame, and it's not because he doesn't deserve it, it will only be because his image has already been tarnished with the above mentioned incidents, unfortunately. Also, I agree that he should stay out of the WBC in '09 and just let it rest. Edited on 8/18/2008 10:21 AM by JEM237. "Worry more about your character than your reputation. It is precisely because I know who makes the decisions on the Baseball Hall of Fame Committee and because of his tarnished image that I mentioned that I don't think Sammy will get in, but it won't be because he doesn't deserve it, in my opinion. That issue of believing whether or not the cork incident was true I guess boils down to whether you want to believe it or not, I choose to believe his version of the story; Same thing goes for the steroid use to a certain extent. Sammy Sosa is not and never was my favorite baseball player to begin with, but I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because he had all his bats x-rayed and no others had cork and he never tested positive for steroids. I do understand if you or others have already made your decision though; I am not here to change anyone's opinion about what happened. And yes, I agree with what you said, it's not about being Dominican, just because I'm Dominican doesn't mean I like every single baseball player from DR. That's not my style. Jem, He was caught Cheating. His excuse was lame at best(any pro baseball player can tell the difference in a bat as soon as they pick it up). He is an embarassment, a liar and a Cheater. That is just a fact. Don't let your patriotism blind you to that. Embrace other Dominican Stars who don't cheat and are much better roll-models. |
