This thread is to post some of the music of the west side of the Island of Bohio. I figured that perhaps through music exchanges much can be accomplish to actually help stop this vilified image many have of the neighboring west side of the Island of Quisqueya. I will be posting some entertaining music videos for those who are willing to be exposed to see another side of those creed living in DR who are from the side of this island we share... I will start with Emeline Michel who is a Haitian singer internationally know around the world as a singer for peace and change. I have more of her videos and her songs as I will post them depending on interests that are shown for her on here while discussing the songs. |

To claim the complex dynamics of the illegal Haitian issue is simply because we don't understand Haitian culture is delusional. |

So you see, I do not have problems with people tarnishing my threads with matters that do not pertain to what the title says. As long as we are talking I suppose that is good news. However, maybe people are not comprehending what I meant by "Music From The West Side" - Of the island that is, thus meaning music from neighboring Haiti. I mean, I love Merengue and Bachata myself as that is mostly all I listen to due tothe fact I spent more time in DR growing up than I did Haiti, but I have come to appreciate Haitian music but mostly the folkloric ones, and not so much Compa Direct. I like this kind of compa below: |

Well the thing is that you are not simply posting a thread about music. You're title is musically oriented, but your very first post said: Quote: AfroLatino1 previously said: I figured that perhaps through music exchanges much can be accomplish to actually help stop this vilified image many have of the neighboring west side of the Island of Quisqueya. This is a backhanded politically charged comment. As I told you in General Chat, the problems Dominicans have with Haitians isn't because we aren't familiar with their culture, but because of the immigration issue. And no duh you meant music from Haiti, that's freaking obvious. There was no misconception there. |

Yeah, Groups like K-dans, Carimi, Kreyol la are my favorite tunes in Haitian music. I do not so much like T-vice anymore and as for Zen, I am a bit shaky about today. I like Nu-Look though but mostly Arly Lariviere I think is his name is a great singer. I grew up more on folkloric Haitian music and other than that I know mostly of music from DR more as many of my Haitians peers seem to believe I identify more with being Dominican even though many members on here who I seem to engaged in discussion here can disagree because I show sympathy or empathy to Haiti in matters of foreign relations between DR and Haiti. Fact is, I love both sides because that is how I was brought up traveling back and forth to Haiti-DR, DR-Haiti with my mother. P.S: My aunt and uncle Arntz "a.k.a" Ansy and Yole Derose, I do not know if you know them are my kind of influences I had growing up. I sued to go to a lot of Youth folkloric activities participating in many cultural activities with two of my little cousins in Haiti who were in a group called "Piti Piti." |
