"I like his style! His is always coming forward ready to fight not like the glorified waltzing that the sport
has been putting out for the past few years."

Naw man he just looks undisciplined to me. Where's the "sweet science" displayed in his fighting style? I have a similiar gripe against Hatton. Hatton doesn't box. All he does is smother you until an opening to sneek a punch in comes up. No science to either of their styles.

Don’t get me wrong I like watching fighter’s like Floyd Mayweather and Bernard Hopkins, but I also like to see brawlers who step into the ring with reckless abandonment.

Yea but you can be a brawler with finesse. Just look at Julio Cesar Chavez or even Margarito for that matter.

There not many of those around anymore unless ur strictly going to stick to Mexican fighters.
Arturo Gatti, is the perfect example the guy goes in the ring either gets KO or puts up an incredible effort.

I rather see pacquiao in a fight than somedody like winky wright any day.

I want to see Joan Guzman Vs. Manny Pacquiao. Joan has the boxing science, finesse, grace vs. The power of Pacquiao. That would be a great fight.

I thought I was the only boxing fan here! Joan Guzman is a top contender and I'd also like to see a Guzman-Pacquiao fight. Manny probably knows that facing Guzman would either set his already famous persona in stone of the greatest boxers of all time list or it would show the world that the Filipino's era is over. I'm also a Cotto fan and having seen many of his fights (or should I say victories), I'm quite surprised that the man from Caguas finally has the blemish of defeat..despite it being his only loss..imprinted onto his stat sheets. Many foresaw this day. Antonio Margarito has a chin like no other man and a very strong heart and many analysts predicted that this time, Miguel was in over his head. Speaking of welterweights, how about up & comer and newly crowned WBC welterweight champ Andre Berto? The guy has some serious skill, lightning quick hand speed and devastating power not to mention an undefeated streak. He hasn't had many "tough" opponents per se but he has some real potential to make it into the select group of star welterweights including Cotto himself. Plus, he's Haitian American so that's even better for me!

RE: Dominican welterweight captures US title
Cib I was in there that night as well. It was truly electric, and what boxing is meant to be. Forget tired, stuffy Casino venues with ignorant gamblers who got complimentary tix from the concierge and came to 'check it out'. Put the fights in big arenas with thousands of real, emotional fans. Promoters have forgotten how to do their job and SELL TICKETS to these shows, and get the people behind a fighter. Here are pics, we were seated in the luxury box with a great view of the action and rabid fans.

I'm the guy in the grey Affliction shirt. Funny thing about this pic is none of us are Ricans! Some friends in the box provided the flag, but we were all reppin for Cotto and the islands that night. Poor Zab, even his fellow NYCers knew who would come out on top.

I actually think Manny Pac has come a LONG way under coach Freddie Roach, he is far more than a brawler. To defeat the likes of Juan Manuel-Marquez you must be a very refined fighter because that man is the embodiment of ring skills and finesse. Hatton is also more skilled than he is given credit for...but Mayweather can make many a polished fighter LOOK like a brawler with his evasive wizardry. I would say Hatton and Pac are both much more skilled than Margarito. Margarito is unstoppable at what he does, but what he does is totally basic. Oh and I don't think we need a rematch. Cotto's skills were visibly superior, he was doing things correctly. It is tough to say this but Margarito is simply too much man and too strong for him.

Guzman vs. Pac would be awesome, but Guzman has to put a good name on his record to make that fight sell. Campbell is a great choice...the "Galaxy Warrior" is no walkover, the winner is def #1 contender to Pac's new title @ 135lbs. And PLEASE if Guzman-Pac happens bring it to the Garden Don!

Berto is very promising, but as the Cotto fight shows he is in possibly the toughest division in the game. I'll be watching his ascent, hopefully he is brought up correctly and picks up all the necessary skills to become a world champ.

Question to the boxing fans on here:

-DR is right in between Cuba & Puerto Rico
-We have many of the same traditions and share alot of the same genetic ancestry
-We have some boxers

Why does DR produce so few good boxers? Lack of good training facilities/coaches?

It can be a combination of those factors USADR but here is my simple take on things: Baseball owns all other sports. Being considered the best in the world at a particular sport often means that other sports are put on the backburner. In this case, the reason why DR produces world class baseball players in such high proportion given its size in stark contrast with sports such as soccer, hence the DR's dreadfulness in the latter. One can take this and apply it to boxing. Cuba and Puerto Rico simply have a stronger sense of passion for the sweet science.

Looks like you guys really had an electric time Manhattanite. I kinda wish I was at the venue. I don't blame you for the flag I would've repped PR too, lol: it's all about caribbean pride! Commenting on Berto I think you're absolutely on point. Berto is in the toughest division and he will have to overcome some serious obstacles opponent-wise to polish his skills as a possible undisputed world champ. Only time will tell.
