RE: Promoters need to bring heavy metal bands to DR
for the people who wax quizzical about the absence of metal bands as part of the Dominican musical experience, please read Anthonyc's questions; you might understand something. bringing a band like Iron Maiden to the DR is not like getting Antony Santos to go from Imbert to Luperon. it is colossal expenditure. the logistics cost tremendous amounts of money. the artists demand massive fees. not because they can go to Puert Rico means they can come here; there is such a thing as television revenues. how many Dominicans , living in the DR, have ever heard of METALLICA? how many stations play that kind of music? do you realistically believe that the average dominican is going to pay 1000 pesos and more to listen to headbanger music? at least with reggaeton, they can move rhythmically to the music. are we going to see mosh pits at Altos de Chavon? and, dear friends, do you have any idea of how much money is raised by concession, souvenir, and beverage operators at a concert in the USA? Do you have any idea how much money is made just from hot dogs and french fries at a baseball game at yankee stadium? all these things offset the cost of these ventures. it is not just ticket sales, but food, t-shirts, cds, etc. hell, here, one guy would bootleg thousands of cds, sell them outside the venue, and short circuit the receipts.! and people would bring their own beer in a brown baggie. so, there goes that.

, dreadlocks my point indeed, these people who like heavy metal are very few and not thinking about any costs involved and in a place where heavy metal music has really no place here, and like i said before the only heavy metal the DR is going to see is the ones shot out of the sky or the ones that land at the airports, thats it.

yes, gatita, they are economically clueless. when they hold a concert at the meadowlands, 60,000 people pay for tickets, eat 50,000 hot dogs, drink 110,000 beers, numerous candy bars, buy 10,000 t shirts and other crap, and 17,000 people pay upwards of 15 dollars to park their cars. that is not like people here, who park a mile away and walk up to the concert with a beer in one hand and pollo frito in the other.

I'm dominican and I don't like bachata or merengue callejero. I prefer heavy metal and I own almost all of Iron Maiden's studio albums, none of antony santos'.

more power to you , Trujillo. that still does not make it economically feasible to bring a heavy metal band to the DR.

I understand that. I just wanted to show that we have different tastes in the DR, it's not only bachata and bad merengue we listen to. I like the old school merengue from the 80s though.

First of all I'm no sanky I hate them and what they stand for and I don't approve of using women for money and as a ticket to get out of Dominican Republic. Just because I love and prefer white women that doesn't make me a sanky its just a matter of taste and everybody has the right of being attracted to whoever they want. All I'm saying is that the Dominican people never progress and don't want to explore new things or be open to other forms of music other then the crap they are listening to now.

I agree with DominicanForWhiteWomen heavy metal should be brought and promoted in DR.

Also, he has the right to like whatever he wants. Just because he likes prefers white women does not mean he is a self hater. Last time I checked there is no rule that says you cannot date outside your race.

trujillo, i belong to a group of jazz fans here in the DR. the local dominicans have some music in their collections that left me amazed. so, i would never believe that musically, the DR is a land of bachata and merengue only.
