RE: Promoters need to bring heavy metal bands to DR
Great stuff Max thanks for sharing. The part at 4:37 of Pt.1 is hilarious! The hard rocking band on Con Cuquin while the teens try to dance... Minor quibble ... tracing rock to the Beatles/Briish invasion? C'mon director, at least if you're gonna play dumb ascribe it to Elvis Otherwise very interesting.

There was lots of mention on the thread about the economics earlier...glad to see here some home Dominican rock artists who do it for love and not concession sales. The demand will swell slowly, hopefully one day Red Hot Chili Peppers in DR may not sound so crazy.

Also here is a link to some local NYC guys , PR and Dominican with a unique sound:

RE: Promoters need to bring heavy metal bands to DR
Well, look around, like someone stated, the economics of bringing a heavy metal band to DR might trump any metal fans' desire to see their favorite bands perform live. However, if they can pay Marc Anthony U$250K to perform at the Presidente Festival, they can pay $100K to any well known metal band. By the way, there is a huge following of heavy metal in DR, believe me it's there, I've seen it with my own eyes. They do follow a DIY work ethic but seem to be lacking in the art of self-promotion......one of the only bands in DR that made an impact AND managed to market themselves properly were Toque Profundo and they're not even a heavy metal band. One of my friends here in Miami is Dominican and she coordinates a yearly cruise with Carnival Cruises where they have Vince Neil of Motley Crue and other bands such as Slayer, which are truly heavy metal, join them and do concerts on a ship for 4 days.

And in reference to what someone said about metal still being alive as a response to all the "hair metal" bands and washed up singers post, I think that metal hit a creative high in the 80s that has not been surpassed. Maybe someone can prove me wrong. And to the Dominicans on here who want to show the world that there's more to DR music than bachata and reggaeton, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Too many people have the wrong impression about DR and its culture, because they stay in the All-inclusive resorts and don't mingle with the regular folks. If Sto Dgo becomes a larger tourist destination, there might be the off-chance of tourists bumping into regular people and seeing that there's more variety than what is shown on the screen or by the Animation teams in the resorts.

From my college days back in DOM, I can say that we used to fgo to anyhtnig that played....

We went to see The Tubes, America, Santana/HEart, Joan Jett, The Brains, Sinatra, Bob James, Sergio something Brazil BAnd......

After I lived in teh states , some friends of mine said they were going to see Pet Shop Boys!! I was dazed, I wouldnt see them here for Free! But then again, I think we just like to party and have a good time.. so if you are into american music , not necesarily heavy metal, you will probably go to a heavy metal concert !! IF anything but to reminisce of the good ol MTV day s!! hahaha!

Hey, my band Audio Terror Regime is working in a few markets in Latin America. We are doing 4 or 5 shows in Puerto Rico in March and are trying to schedule show in Nicaragua. What's the Dominican metal scene like? Do you have bands from the states? Pass along some promoters or places to play and we may be able to work something out.

The Dominican Republic sucks when it comes to supporting the heavy metal scene Iron Maiden has concert dates so far in Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and have played in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico and dominican republic won't bring them here which to me says it all.
