Rita Hayworth the most beautiful of all women and from Argentina and Carmen Miranda from Brazil : were bigger stars

Oh ; No you didn't!
Mr. Sinaloa Cartel what does this have to do with our national film heroine?

Let us bask in our own achievements; You can celebrate your Anthony Quinn, OK?

Carmen Miranda? You mean the chica-boom girl? Give me a break, Pancho!

the beautiful Maria Montez I grew up watching as the star of the second feature always the second feature never the first .I have a coffee table book about her .Her death was unfortunate and she was also so young when she passed .There used to be a lovely little restaurant named after her in the Colonial Zone on calle Sanchez that used to show her films upstairs away from the dining room its passing was also unfortunate ...see LINK....... http://www.dominicantoday.com/dr/search?q=cafe+montez.............. However the impact and fame of Carmen Miranda should not be scorned Arsenio.....Famous for promoting Brazil in her role as an entertainer, Miranda was a Broadway star, one of the highest-paid artists in Hollywood, and by some accounts the highest-earning woman in the United States. She achieved stardom in motion pictures, cast in musical roles and often wearing a hat topped with tropical fruit, most notably in The Gang's All Here (1943 film), which has become her iconic visual identity. She is considered the precursor of Brazil's tropicalismo..There are two museums honoring her and everyone still remembers her the same cannot be said for poor little Maria and her airport {the info on Carmen was ripped off from wiki} Sorry Margarita Carmen Cansino aka. Rita Hayworth was not from Argentina my mistake she was born in America of Spanish descent

manny says
" Hilarious the kind of movies they could make back then " Think of them as the schlock of the 40s and 50s same as the Police Academy Friday 13 and rest of the Slasher or inane fast and furious junk of the current era Good motion pictures were also made in this era no not good great . Maria Montez was even in a knock off of Casablanca one of the greatest films ever made .I am shocked shocked manny that you did not know this Tangier was the film it was a turkey I have seen better film on teeth

RE: Maria Montez - Orgullo Dominicano
Well as I said earlier in the thread I'm not much of a film buff, especially not the schlock. It's very hard to get me to sit down for two hours to watch a film, it has to come highly recommended for me to give it a crack ... or be about something I'm feeling curious about. Neither of those apply to most of this golden age Hollywood stuff. A lot of these filoms are difficult to appreciate out of their context, ex. Citizen Kane consistently ranked in top 3 of films... but I guess since I don't have a grasp of how movies were done before CK it is hard for me to appreciate its greatness.

Nonetheless props to Mrs. Montez for her career, even if she was not the A star.

Citizen Kane was considered a bomb in its day and it was not until later did it gain acclaim for its technique it received little applause upon its releaseThis is also true of the great Christmas film " Its A wonderful life " with Jimmy Stewart was considered at the time a stinker now we watch it every Christmas . See famous lost scene from Citizen Cane on you tube.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T9KPd_HgoQw

I love the old Hollywood films. I have to look out for her next time, like on TCM (Turner Classic Movies Channel).

When you say "schlock" do you mean a movie like the "The Thief of Baghdad" with the same actor Sabu that was in Arabian Nights with Maria Montez, because I was just watching the Thief of Baghdad on TCM a couple weeks ago and that movie seems similar to Arabian Nights (also w/actor Sabu).

And I'm sorry but I love that over the top glamorous stuff.
