Ladronaso, it's nice to see how you hold us in such high regard. I disagree that attractive women in DR are a mere minority- I've traveled there since I was a kid and lived there (mostly around the capital, La Romana and the Cibao region) and have seen plenty of pretty girls (and I'm not just defending them because I'm a dominican woman myself.) It's a shame you've mostly come across eye-sores and grillos (was that the word?). Then again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Edited on 7/28/2008 11:01 AM by UnDyin86. |

I can understand that, but I also feel that for the most part, Dominican women are a drop in the bucket when it comes to mainstream media, i.e novelas, models, singers...with the exception of a few. That can also contribute to the overall conception of a certain type of woman. Ex: Mexican women in novelas are absolutely gorgeous, and beautiful mexican women exist-but I don't always see those prototypes riding the bus or working in restaurants. Oh, well. Yes. Precisely. I have travelled to many countries as well as lived in several U.S. sates. Though some may view opinion as anecdotal they are based on responses and input from others as well. Example some women find that I am not attractive, others feel that I am cute, some say that I am handsome others believe that I am just O.K (just there). Therefore based on all these responses in my life I can safely assume that on a scale from 1-10 I am a 6 or 6.5. Not FUGLY not terribly handsome just slightly above average. Perhaps on my best day 30 lbs leaner, perhaps a 7.5. Therefore based on my experiences, experience with Dominican Women in the Dominican Republic, women in other countries as well as responses from peoples of other nations etc, I feel I can safely make those assertions. Now, I still hold the believe that there has been a gradual and somewhat rapid reduction in the amount of really attractive Dominican Women in the last 20 years or so. FYI I too am Dominican, of Dominican parents, I too have traveled extensively to DR and have visited just about every corner except for Samana Edited on 7/28/2008 11:45 AM by ladronaso. You (and everybody else in here) will have to forgive me for dealing the slimy class card from the bottom of the deck on this, but I think that this rapid reduction might be happening due to the increasing emigration of our middle to upper classes, whose sons and daughters have as their goal to go and earn their bread on foreign lands, once they get their studies done. Why am I saying this? because of the fact that, notwithstanding the fact that there are some outstanding beauties on our populace (specially on the Cibao region), it's also a fact that beauty on the DR increases the higher is the class of the woman in question. In short, the ratio between beautiful/ugly women favours the former on the case of the women belonging to the middle to upper classes of the DR even more than what we can see on the populace. Not an idealist. I like to give objective real viewpoints. When someone tells me that they are going to DR and ask my opinion of what to expect. I tell them the truth.: Don't trust anyone. That our people for the most part are a peaceful one but they are very capricious not by nature but because of the lack of resources. That there is much poverty and corruption, that Dominican men on the Island have a reputation for being promiscuous and that Dominican women not all but many are willing to entertain a viable solution for their economic state including leaving the Island. To expect several inconveniences (outside of tourist complexes) That my island has beautiful countrysides majestic mountains, incredible beaches ( on the east ). I tell them that despite all it's drawbacks deficiencies, and poverty I love my country, and its people. And so, my fellow "Dominicans", ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. |

Yes you are very right. Unfortunately others will label your statements as racially motivated. Well, allow me to add my 2 cents on this convo: First and foremost I am glad that the posters on here are trying to look at this subject with an unbiased and truthful eye. I have witnessed on other forums where a particular nationality will come to their own opinion that their women are the queens of the universe. First a little bit about me and what are my personal sources: I am 100% Dominican. Born in DR (San Juan De La Maguana), raised in the USA (East Coast, NJ/NYC/MA). I also got to live and go to school in DR for one year. Here's the good points: -The fact that DR has been able to be very competetive in many international beauty pageants should at least mean that we have enough raw material to work with and capable of producing among the most beautfiul women in the world. -One common comment from many non-DR foreigners is that it is very common for DR women to have a good figure (i.e. ass/hips/legs). -The genetic ancestry of Dominicans makes for an exotic appeal to those not accustomed besides the actual aesthetic beauty. -DR women are very sensual when they dance. Here's the bad points: -A tendency to just rely on mother nature (sheer genetics) for their looks. I'm talking about proper dentistry/exercise. Others on here have hit upon this. You will see some real diamonds in the rough that would shine with just a little bit of polishing. You'll see a potential dime piece who would shine if it wasn't for some chichos/belly hang/gap etc. -A tendency (mostly among those in the lower socioecomonic levels) for tacky hair colors. How they compare to the rest of LatinAmerica: -I work with alot of Colombians. I've dated many Colombians. Colombian women are my favorite, but take a real close look as to why they rate so high with everyone. No doubt, I think they might have a higher ratio of good looking ones than DR, but Colombian women are very on point/serious with their upkeep. I've seen mothers who look as good or better than the daughters. They will not hesitate to get on a diet or go to Colombia for cheaper dentistry and even a nip/tuck here and there. I'm not saying Colombian womens' beauty is all plastic, but they will not hesitate to indulge, and yes DR women too but not to the extent. If you take a good look, alot of the good looking Colombian women from the Medellin/Pereira/Paisa region are pretty, and they have NICE bodies but not as sensuous as DR women. But the Colombian women wil tend NOT to let the belly/chicho get outta control, lmao. So my top picks in LatinAmerica: Colombians/Venezuelans/Costa Ricans/Brazilians/Puerto Ricans/Dominicans. Oh and btw, has anyone noticed how outstaning the PR/DR mixes look here in the NYC/NJ are? I've come across quite a few stunners. My note to DR women, you have alot of potential and raw material to work with. And please note, DR women are well ahead of MANY other LatinAmerican countries who really have a very short shortage of good looking women (and no, I will not name them! lmao) Also please note that DR does not have a huge and well developed film industry where they showcase the best looking women from a small segment of their population (again I will not name names) meanwhile, here on the East Coast the common citizen from that region is like no where near to what is portrayed. Okay, enough generalizing, feel free to comment / agree/disagree. |

I know the subject is on women, but let me add the following: -I think us Dominican men might be on more demand by other nationalities. I'm being serious. Who else here has gotten a well reception or x-tra bonus points from other nationalities based on your Dominicaness? And yes, I am aware of the negative stereotypes: -We are all loudtalking/slang talking/mal hablada drug dealing/bachata dancing mujeriegos! Actually the mujeriego rep. will help you. Plus the fact that the rest of LatinAmerica and the US (outside the tri-state area & FL, not many are familiar with us) are in love with Aventura, has actually helped our 'image' lol I've talked to DR men in California who say they're like a hot commodity because they stand out with the Mexi women out there. |

I would have to agree with you regarding Colombian women and their mothers. Yes this is very true. So why is it that Dominican women don't take care of themselves. ceteris paribus, DR women should be on the same level but they're not. I say its because lack of real incentives. Colombian women have a lot of competition within their own and right next door. Therefore they understand the drawbacks of skipping a step and will go the extra mile to sweat off the empanadas. But Dominican women are more complacent (or have been). I can guarantee you if you were able to increase the the ratio of beautiful women to men, you would increase the competition for viable men and thus increase the incentive for women to go an extra mile to sweat off the chicharrones. And so, my fellow "Dominicans", ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country. |
