During recent times, this merengue genre has to the dismay of many, gained an immense amount of popularity. Performers such "Omega", "El Sujeto", "Tito Swing", Jucafry, and countless others are what you mostly hear right now when people think of merengue. I'm personally not too happy about this because I don't think that this is a good image for merengue, but on the other hand, I'm not going to be a hipocrite and say that from time to time these performers do come out with some pretty catchy songs that are a bit difficult to resist i.e. "Si tu sabe' cola' cafe cuelame e'te paquete!" Anyone else here have similar or different thoughts about this kind of merengue? Edited on 5/26/2009 4:11 PM by JEM237. Anyone else here feel similar or different thoughts about this kind of merengue? Para bailar y bacilar un poco estan bien pero sinceramente como musica para escuchar....BASURA! Indeed they are catchy some of these new merengues but so are nursery rhymes. The genre has suffered IMMENSELY in the last few years. I haven't heard a new merengue that I can say I really, really like in ages. Dios mio, ya el pais no produce artistas como Sergio vargas, Jochy Hernandez, Benny Sadel, just to name a few. El merengue esta en una de sus peores epocas. Edited on 5/26/2009 4:11 PM by cibaeño75. "To learn who rules over you simply find out who you are not allowed to criticize" - Voltaire |

Anyone else here have similar or different thoughts about this kind of merengue? I look at them as artist. They make music taht catch the ears of everybody and whether any body like it or not it takes a lot of talent to do it and make people stop listening to other genres of music. To me a kind of different but i like personally because after having over 100 genres all recycling the same love some over and over we deserve something that talks about a different subject. Omega is a very talented individual. The way i look at it is that if they are taking over the airwaves is because people want to listen to them and most of their CDs contain actually new songs not the same recycle program most artist have adopted for many years and as we all know thats why Hip Hop has taken over all genres because almot 90 percent of the song are new and require more talent than just having a pretty face and a nice voice. Like the reguetoneros, they are, and always will be, the equivalent of vermin to me. Edited on 5/26/2009 4:27 PM by Lautaro. Back in the 80's people were doing an excellent job in interpreting lyrically, and instrumentally Merengue. READ A BOOK FOR REAL! BECOME A BOOKWORM MISTER BEFORE YOU GET SERVED!!!!! |
