Actually, he was. It was during his time and participation in Wilfrido Vargas's band that he became known with the songs "Volvere" & "El Africano". He was with Los Hijos Del Rey prior to joining Wilfrido also. Ditto in regards to Monchy Capricho his songs were great indeed. Edited on 6/8/2009 2:46 PM by JEM237. American 80's music ruled as well, they were the best. Some great merengues: 1. EL JADINERO-WILFRIDO VARGAS. 2. ES MEJOR DECIR ADIOS - JOCHY HERNANDEZ . 3. BUSCANDO TUS BESOS-RUBBY PEREZ 4. TODO ME GUSTA DE TI-JERRY LAGRAND 5. SI ALGUN DIA LA VEZ-SERGIO VARGAS 6. AMIGA CORAZON-ALGORITMO 7. COMPAÑERA-FERNANDO VILLALONA- 8. OYE-RASPUTIN 9. FOTOGRAFIA-BONNY CEPEDA 10. A NADIE LE IMPORTA-CARLOS MANUEL Ignorance is temporary, stupidity lasts forever. |

Let's not forget Wilfrido was one the main reason the 80's was such an important decade in the Merengue genre. He had his own orchestra but also owned or was part owner of many others, including Los Hijos Del Rey, The New York Band and Las Chicas Del Can. There weren't/aren't many Dominican Merengue singers who wasn't part of one of Wilfrido's groups. Fernandito Villalona, Sandy Reyes, Eddy Herrera, Victor Waill, Bonny Cepeda, Sonny Ovalle, Alex Bueno, Rasputin, Freddy Kenton, Luis Kenton, Raulin Rosendo, Rubby Perez...........you name it, they have been part of a Wilfrido band. I never liked Monchy Capricho.....too much of a whiney voice. Edited on 6/8/2009 4:03 PM by TuPapaupa. I am "An Army Of One" ![]() Come Get Some!!. |

I also really liked some of the New York-based merengueros from the 80's and even into early 90's such as The New York Band, Iris y Franklin Riverse, Milly, Jocelyn & Los Vecinos, La Gran Manzana ( I know Henry Hierro eventually formed his own band) and others that I cannot recall.
