Johnny is recognized worldwide as the greatest modern DR music all around the world.
Of course, he's been preceeded by Joseito Mateo, and Alberto Beltran, respectively.
Though, not as widely as El Negro Sabroso. This is further proff that our culture as whole is not what some would havee them to be "racist". Cada uno con su talento y el Maetro Johnny Ventura se ha ganado el aplauso y primero lugar donde quiera que a pisado con sus Combo Show.

Now we do live in an age of ipods and blackberries where information travels at warp speed (Star Trek), where Kinito Mendez is considered old school; So, where does it that leave el Doctor del Sabor?
People's attention span is like 30 seconds no a days...Therefore, what took place 10 or 20 years is like pre-historic. But, the records have been set long before Aventura y Fulanito, or Tulile.
They aren't people that someone would recognize in Tokyo, or in Berlin, or London.

Because of what Johnny has done for so many years is why Dominicans consider him a custom (una costumbre).

Hay que joderse pero Johhnny es Johnny y los demas son los de mas.

I just can't stand it when some Dominicans think Fernando is the greatest. most people don't realize Ventura has recorded over 100 albums.

YUMNUK: You used the right combination of words when you said that.
Like the joke says:
Esos son AIGUNO'!

They don't know what they are talking about ; To say that Feinandito is no.1; Maybe in Tamboril or Lomas Cabrera, throw in Colombia; They love him there too; but, then again they love anyone that's crazy enough to go visit them....But, as far as records sold, places toured, and a track record spaning at least 50 years. No comparison, mi panal.
Johnny beats him hands down even on a Rainy day...que Cabello ni cabello....

El Caballo as dado mas vueltas que Feinandito. He only did like 8 laps around the track and had to vow out because he was out of "breath". Johnny sigue pegao sin aruga.

Just say not to cyberanonymity!

No creo que existe UN Dominicano que no le guste "El Negrito Del Batey", sea cantado por Alberto Beltran, Johnny Ventura o quien sea.

I do like Fernandito more than I like Johnny but no way in hell will I ever say that Fernando is better.

To me, you can put all the Merengueros together and they still have not accomplished what Johnny has.

People talk about Los Rosario, Fernandito, Heddy Herrera, Alex Bueno, Kinito Mendez, El Jefrey (el pajarrazo) and all the newer Merengueros (which most are very good) and forget that Johnny was already established, recording hits after hits after hits BEFORE ALL OF THEM WERE EVEN BORN!.

I remember being sent to the DR on a summer vacation, back in the early 70's and dancing my ass off (back them there was a little fiesta somewhere in the neighborhood, sometimes 5, lol) to Johnny's "El Tabaco".

Great memories.

Yumnuk says:

Truer words have never been spoken. you definitely know what your talking about Villalona couldn't carry ventura jockstrap.

Johnny Ventura is the man who almost singlehandedly developed and modernized the contemporary merengue sound. you'll never see another Merenguero like him... the man and his accomplishments are beyond reach.
