Who cares what you are nor what you think. I know what my country is (I live in it) and I know what the people I see on a daily basis at work, waiting for buses and cars, in restaurants and supermarkets and in schools look like and most of them are Mulattos! If you came here and went to a batey and got stuck with a bunch of black people then ofcourse you probably would think Dominican Republic is predominantly black but all you have to do is drive around the city and see that Mulattos are clearly the majority in this country. Don't give me that crap.

I think a lot of the descendants of Spanish people in the DR can be mistaken for mullato...but they are essentially white Europeans.

I agree with you in that the term "mulatto" to describe many Dominicans is being used loosely here. Truly, one should just use the term"mixed" instead because there are other ethic groups present in the Dominican Republic. Let's not forget that an influx of Asians and Jews --and their descendants-- have altered the percentages of "mixed" people in the country-- by raising it, that is. I for one, have parents that are both Dominican, yet I am also mixed with Taino, (my grandmother is a direct Mestiza, something very rare on the island...) Korean, French, Spanish, and German blood. Upon searching Google images I was a little upset to find that many images show only the darker side of the island and so a foreigner doing the same search might label us a certain way and form stereotypes. Because things of that nature tend to install preconceived notions of what Dominicans are "supposed" to look like, Dominicans that have slightly different appearances are sometimes thought to be foreign when they shouldn't be.

For example, in my family some people look similar to this....(NOTE: THE PEOPLE IN THESE IMAGES ARE NOT NECESSARILY DOMINICAN)





And they are still Dominican. We cannot limit ourselves in saying that the demographics of Dominican Republic are composed of Mulatto, Black and White. We must include other categories as well.
