TROLL ALERT PLEASE CLOSE SUCH NONSENSE OF A THREAD. Here we go again another frustrated HAITIAN or AA talking down to Dominicans and telling us we are wrong for caling MULATTOES, MIXED and not BLACK. Get over it. We are Dominicans and have the right to call our people whatever we want. As mixed person you belong to both groups and in the DR we celebrate both groups. It's the beauty of being Dominican. In the U.S. you are labeled as BLAACK, when in fact you are not totally black. Beyonce is a classic example, she looks like a mulatta (her mother is french creole) and her dad is black. She is a mixed person but not in the U.S. Whites want to remain white and don't want to allow mixed people to enter there white category so they placed them into the black category. The problem is that a mix person is a product of both and has the right to celebrate both equally. However, in the U.S. we are taught to choose one side and not celebrate the other. In the DR, and Latin America, it's different. You celebrate both b/c you are a product of both. There is no strife in Latin America. TROLLLLLL ALERTTTTTTT |

The study, conducted by the University of Puerto Rico, reveals that approximately 15-18% of Dominicans have Native American Mitochondrial DNA out of a population of nearly 10,000,000. The research is based on 1200 DNA samples taken throughout the island with some test areas revealing 90% of the subjects with Native ancestry. While the percentages are lower than similar studies conducted on the neighboring island of Puerto Rico, the estimates defy “popular” accounts that the Indigenous Peoples were completely exterminated on that island. “This study is a confirmation of what we have already known and promoted for years” stated Roberto Borrero, a representative of the United Confederation of Taino People. “Our people continue to exist within the multi-cultural mosaic that is the Caribbean despite the genocidal campaigns that began against us 516 years ago with the arrival of Columbus.” One interesting aspect of the study is that individuals tested in the Cibao region seem to have a different DNA sequence than those tested in the southern part of the island. While both sequences are indigenous the variants could shed some light on ancient migrations. The study also reveals that the Taino descendants from the Cibao area could have been relatively “un-mixed racially” until more recent times. I know that, I have some mestizo looking family members who are 100% dominican, but every black and white person reps 1/8th indian so it means nothing, they're still black and they're still white. Have you ever seen a Dominican that looks like George Lopez or Carlos Mencia? |

Quote: Tacobell previously said: Sorry but the only reason alot of blacks and black dominicans have white ancestry is because of rape, why would you want to celebrate the culture of a rapist so bad? And I am a Dominican, it's just that I'm a REAL mulatto and I never get confused for black and I still acknowledge that I have black in me and I'm not dick riding a bunch of spaniards. The only reason is becaue of rape? That's a ludicrous statement. You really need to study Dominican history for only then will you understand how different race dynamics were in Spanish Santo Domingo in comparison to the rest of the hemisphere. Face it, The majority of the dominicans you'll see in DR look black, but you wouldn't know because you probably live in a rich upper class neighborhood in DR where everyone is a German or Spanish business man.
