Read below: El secretario de Turismo en el almuerzo de la Cámara. Santo Domingo.- La aerolínea criolla Air Dominicana iniciará sus operaciones en agosto próximo hacia Nueva York, Miami, Puerto Rico y Venezuela, reveló ayer el secretario de Turismo, Francisco Javier García, durante su participación como orador del almuerzo mensual de la Cámara Americana de Comercio. En la actividad realizada en el hotel El Embajador, el funcionario informpo también que junto con el sector privado va a poner en funcionamiento el Plan de Ordenamiento Territorial en los diferentes polos turísticos. Informó que el mes pasado el Consejo de Fomento Turístico (Confotur) aprobó inversiones por un monto de US$16,000 millones en proyectos que serán desarrollados en el país. En una extensa exposición García propuso a los representantes del sector (Asonahores, Adeti y otros) unificar acciones para proteger la inversión presente y futura y que se aboquen a recopilar leyes, reglamentos y decretos para determinar qué pudiera estar obstaculizando el desarrollo. García reiteró que el turismo no está en crisis y que la situación mundial va mejorando poco a poco. Destacó que en Turismo descansan muchas solicitudes de aprobación de proyectos de inversión. Citó los proyectos aprobados en distintas zonas definiendo al polo de Barahona como “un diamante sin pulir”, que pronto será desarrollado.

They will open august 1st 2009. Most of the delay was caused by permits to flight into USA after one of the major investor dropped out the Air Europa stepped in to buy the left share and DR is part owner together with Air Europa. From what i think DR will take over the whole air line if successful after a while according to the contract with air Europa they are mostly doing this as a investment loan kind of thing.
If this works then this could lead to very good income sources for the country and Europe will get a more open DR in favor is my guess but hey if it works then is all good.

It was expected to begin operations in August 2009 with a Boeing 737-300. This airline will operate flights to USA, the Caribbean, South America and Europe.
