Yes Jason you are correct when you say Dominicans are "black" as that term is defined in the United States.75% of Dominicans are direct decendants of Africans slaves. They are the ORIGINAL decendants of African slaves. Or the first African slaves brought here.

Christopher Colombus and the Spanish Conquistadors were the first european settlers to arrive to the Americas in 1492. When they arrived on the Island of Hispanola they were met by Taino Indians.You already know the HIstory of what happened to the Indians.

The Indians were later killed,murdered, raped and enslaved by the Spanish. Later in early 1500, just some 8 yrs.after Christopher Colombus and the Spanish arrived they begin to import thousands and later milllions of African slaves. These slaves later would learn the language of their enslavers (Spanish), and work alone side the Taino Indians in slavery.

They enter-married with the Indians and Spanards,either by force or rape. This merger of these three racial groups African,Taino Indian, Spanish created the modern day Dominican. The reason some or 75% of Dominicans look "Black" or "Brown" like African Americans in the United States is because they share the SAME African blood line.

The reason Dominicans get angry at you when you ask them ,are the "Black"? is because over the course of about 70 years they ("Black" dominicans) have been brain washed in believing they are different. That their "black" or "brown" skin color, the very same skin color as Afro Americans in the United States is the result of the Spainards and Taino Indian merger. Dispite the fact that it was the Spainards, not the English who first brought African slaves to the new world. And that Taino Indians were completely riped out in about 50 yrs from murder and decease.

These African slaves discussed above were brought by the Spainards to the what is now modern day Dominican Republic nearly 100 years before the English arrived at Janestown Virginia in the early 1600s and they all spoke Spanish soon after they arrived. Dominicans are ashamed of this History and they Deny it all cost. But you cannot change history.
