RE: El Metro
I hear you Time2rise. The metro is definitely a solution to the transportation problem. In terms of safety, reliability, efficiency, environmenal protection, comfort, among others. Honestly, the PLD's approach to modernize the country with infrastructure works is very important. However, with this boom in construction, tourism, call-centers, etc. the only attain will now be re-distributed to the poor in DR. I honestly think, that during Fernandez's next period if elected, he will concentrate more on education and heatlhcare. The PLD and he knows that for the country to truly advance and compete in the DR-CAFTA DR must be competive at all levels. Having an educated workforce will advance the country trully. He knows that. I think the DR-CAFTA is a good trade pact b/c it challenges DR to compete and turn away from the barabic ways of doing business. Eliminates monopolies, encourages education/training, provides more opporunities for all people to make it. Let's face it, I think it will create more oppt's for the poor which have always been neglected in DR. Now these kids will have scholarships to the UASD, international colleges, and more oppts. Yes, there is more work to be done, but the right have has been established.

El metro if managed correctly, we benefit the capital and the country tremendously.

I really want to take a ride on the Metro, but my intuition, tells me not to. I mean we are suppose to have 24 hours electricity, here in Cabarete, but its more like 24hrs minus 3,4 or like yesterday 8, last week 30hrs , I Mean please dont get me wrong its better than before, but how can they assure that Elec. will be provided at all times in the metro.

And now Edenorte says that we will keep on getting Power Outages, due to maintenance work on the power lines, up untill May 16. (how convenient we might have power outage for the elections)

Power cuts due to ongoing repairs

Last time i check in Forida, FPL does not have to have blackouts to do there work.

When people tell you:

" OH you're Dominican, I been to Punta Cana and had a fantastic time, I was heart sickened when I went to the city, so much poverty."

Has anyone been on the metro to attend the book fair?

Time2rize, I know you are just waiting for the lines to be shorter.

RE: El Metro
i am entertained by the commentary of the eternal optimists like NY4LIFE, who state categorically that the metro will be a solution to the traffic congestion; they prompt me to ask the question¨how would you know this?¨in order to make such a determination, one has to have either seen Geographic Information Studies, or to have done them. i am very reluctant to believe that any of our posters has done either. i do not even think the government did one. so, we are functioning solely on optimism. besides, trending shows that most subway systems end up carrying lower volumes than the forecasts, even when studies were thoroughly done. so it is a 50-50 tossup as to whether or not it succeeds. i hope it does...it would be a shame to deprive so many other worthy causes of funding to build yet one more white elephant

Dreadlocks, what you have to understand and everyone else that opposed the metro system is that is now built. You can't deny it will be the most efficient way to get around Santo Domingo. It should be the safest, securest, fastest, and most comfortable way to get around the city. Now thats buitl, I would assume you would use it. Unless, you want to wait 2 to 3 hrs a traffic jam in the morning and afternoon to go work/school/home. I know you are frustrated by the measure but I think it would be idoitic not to get on the metro and deal with the horrific conchos, and traffic situation. I mean people will realize the benefit of the metro once it's up and running.

As far as the studies goes. I pray that all that was taken into account before planning the metro. I hope assume Dominicans are not so incompetent to not do the studies and risk soooooooo many lives. If anything major where to happen in the metro, as far as a landslide, or a caving in of the infrastructure, Diandino Pena should be sent to life in prison.

In the mean time, I say lets anticipate the grand opening of the safest, fastest, and most comfortable way to travel in Santo Domingo.

Espero que todo se suban al progreso!
