You are Dominican because you're from the Island of Santo Domingo. That is a regional identity to that island, as you're also Caribbean, Islander and American (the continent). Your real, truth and proper national identity is that of Quisqueyan. Dominican is the nationality (national identity) of the People from the Island of Dominica. Dominican Republic is the denomination of the State given in the "Trinitarian Oath" to our republic. It is not the name of the Nation as it eventually and wrongly was changed in our Constitution. Send someone to our conference on "Duarte and Quisqueya: Our National Identity" on July 30, 2010, 7:30pm at "Viernes Culturales" in Miami, Florida. See detail in our web site. Listen to five minutes of introduction (in Spanish): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UO_3n1Vogbs Hope this source will create an interest in our youth to claim their true national identity or what their parent’s national identity should be or should have been. You can also go directly to http://www.quisqueya.name |
