ALA Needs Your Help....Please!!!
Academia Latina Americana De Ingles was established on September 1 2007 in the mountain town of Jarabacoa in the Dominican Republic.

Please view our photos and videos on MySpace and see for your self how well the students are doing. http://www.myspace.com/academialatinaamericana .

Founder Alberto Jesus Sanchez came to the Dominican Republic with a mission to help young children and adults learn American English. My goal is to provide the students with the necessary curriculum so they can easily learn American English and also learn about respect, basic manners, proper hygiene, history, geography, math, and computer skills.

Our Academy suffered a great loss May 10th 2009 when someone broke into the school and stole an inverter with 6 batteries, 5 Dell computers and monitors, a HP laser printer and a Cannon Digital camera. This loss has caused the school a great setback.

Today, I am asking for your help. Anything you can help us with would be greatly appreciated. I came to the Dominican Republic to teach, to make a difference in young people’s lives and I am not going to give up just because someone stole our equipment.
We have accounts setup with PayPal (academiadeingles@hotmail.com) and also with Xoom.com (academiadeingles@hotmail.com).

Our address is: calle 16 de agosto casa #3 2ndo nivel, Jarabacoa Republica Dominicana and our phone number is 829-201-6263

We invite you to visit our Academy when ever you are in the Dominican Republic. Our door is always open. Thank you for reading our plea for help and God bless you and all of your family.

Can you post a "police report" where everything that was stolen is listed?.

I got your PM and I don't mind helping but you have to understand "there's a sucker born every second" and I am not one of them.....and since I don't like "SURPRISES", I, and perhaps others here, would feel better if you post that report.

Hello TuPapaupa

Yes I did send some members a PM asking for you help and you were on the list of PM's. Unfortunately, the police and the laws are not the same in the Dominican Republic as they are back in the Unites States. This occurred two months ago and I have been lead on a wild goose chase looking for the thieves, putting gas in police vehicles and motorcycles, buying lunch and paying then for their time spent looking for the wild goose. Meanwhile we have not recovered a single piece of equipment. On top of that I had to prove that I owned the things that were missing, like presenting photos of the items and receipts of where they were purchased. In this country the thieves are protected by the laws that are in place. Its not like back in the USA that if you catch someone in your home performing a robbery and you shoot them you are protected by the law. Here you go to jail for that. Also, in the DR they do not take finger prints or do a formal investigation. I am not one to ask for anything from anyone, but I am at a point where I had to do it. I personally funded everything that I had in the Academy my self with money that I had from selling my personal items back in the states before coming to the DR. If you feel like you would like to help the children, it would be a great thing on your part. I am not out to scam anyone. Please take a look at our page on My Space and click on the photos and videos to see what I am doing with the children for your self. In the two years that I have been teaching here in the DR, I have students that have found good paying jobs working at resorts, restraints, and local companies that export their products to the United States. I appreciate any help that you can send us and the students will appreciate more. Thank you for taking the time to respond and God Bless You and Your Family.

In CAbarete the cops write the report by hand in a school kids note book. You do no get a copy. I am sure if I wanted one they would write just about anything for 500 pesos
