However, Santo Domingo is no slouch. If you refuse to acknowledge that than so be it. DR is the heart and soul of the Americas. Geographically and Historical ! Dobbs, as a result of your ethnocentrism, something you accuses others of here, you see allusions to comparison with the great metropilises of the world when none were made..Dominicans are not Canadians, we don't use another country as a point of reference for ourselves..LOL...but I find it strange that you would think that someone who grew up in Washington heights would have a "provincial" mind frame. Mind you, I'm not from the heights and the neighborhood holds no attraction for me but last I checked it was LOCATED ON THE NORTHERN TIP OF MANHATTAN ISLAND, arguably the most cosmopilitan and multi-cultural (in Dobb's take of the word) spot on the entire globe! And one of the reason why New York is multi-cultural in the sense that you're referring to! Unbelievable. "Don't ask me who's influenced me. But to the rest of the world listening to this we fall very short. So that it's laughable by anyone not in touch with Dominican culture and society and those who are cultured and well traveled. Dominican Republic? where, who? really!!! We have to be real. Though we wish and want to be, we are not. We have a long way to go. So, you don't like what's happening in DR.... |

So that it's laughable by anyone not in touch with Dominican culture and society and those who are cultured and well traveled. Dominican Republic? where, who? really!!! if the rest of the world is listening to what goes on here at DT.com then this is one of the least laughable threads available. if they are out of touch with our culture and society, surely their opinion isn't something to hold against ny4life's post. ny4life hasn't said anything that wouldn't be found in any tourism pamphlet that might bring them here to change their mind and move them into that first group you mentioned above. and I sure hope people who travel to DR aren't doing it to find the same 'exotic' multi-culti restaurant lineup I've run into from New York to Melbourne and many cities in between. some travelers are looking for something else... Quote: cibaeño75 previously said: The facts are that DR's culture is a composite culture, ie composed of different cultures ie multi-cultural...native American, European, and African with some light leafening from other contributors..that's all. Nothing hard to understand about that... ..and yes that kind of syncretism can be found elsewhere in Latin America, but if people want to hear about those other versions they can check venezuelatoday, braziltoday, etc I think ny4life was clear in his commentary there is much improvement left ahead for DR though, and I know this was likely your main point ladronaso. |

We have a long way to go. ladron let me tell you that we are only trailing mexico, brazil and argentina in tourism in latin america and the ladder two we will probably surpassed this year or next year. the more these tourists from all over the world come to our country the more they will know for what santo domingo stand for. few people know that fact about our country.
