However Maximo Taveras said it’s difficult to determine the exact number of Dominicans living in Puerto Rico and pledged the Consulate’s assistance in a census to establish the exact figure. The Dominican diplomat also asked Dominicans there to obey Puerto Rican Law, in reference to areas frequented by undocumented people in the area of Toa Bja, on the island’s north. He said he’ll try to solve the problem of the illegal presence of Dominicans in Toa Baja, where since several months ago they’ve been erecting illegal housing which lacks the permit for residential use. As to his compatriots’ illegal arrival at Puerto Rico’s west coasts, Taveras said the tendency has been substantially reduced in the last months due to police pressure from his country and the island’s federal authorities. Source: diariolibre.com.do where are the people who where saying that they were only 70 000 dominicans in Puerto Rico ? How those numbers grow up like this ? please answer me. TN1804 |

(Reproduction baby-- latinos breed like rabbits) These undocumented immigrants should be provided assistance in obtaining better living conditions, so that they will not have to erect these type of living quarters. They are there on the Island, some contirbuting to the growth of the economy. I think the U.S. government should legalize the status of those who are demonstrating a williness to be law abiding, productive members of the community there. There is also a small criminal element of Dominicans there who create a bad reputation for the positive individuals who are contributing to the economy. This element should be singled out, jailed and deported. |

And guess what? Most of those blacks are Dominicans Thats not entirely true. There has always been a significant number of Black Puerto Ricans on the Island. Somewhere over 400,000. These individuals faces are not always represented in the ads you see in the fancy brochures, but they have always been there. Nor do many Puerto Ricans you meet want to actually aknowledge that there is a large percentage of Black Puerto Ricans on the Island. Some of these people have never actually been to the island or have'nt been there since they were kids. They simply listen to what someone else told them. I see no particular reason why the color of Dominicans or Puerto Rican skin is of any importance to the topic of this thread. Some people are so consumed with color that they often times forget about the things that really matter. My many visits to Puerto Rico reveals that many Puerto Ricans live in dirt poverty, are uneducated and living on government welfare. In the ghettos where a hosts of them live, there is rampant crime and drug dealing. Unwed teens and dead beat fathers. And this all occurring in a place that is a commonwealth of the United States. Puerto Ricans are in no place whatsoever to be criticizing Dominicans as being black or whatever. Both groups are spin-offs of African slaves, Taino Indians, and European settlers. Whether they wish to acknowledge it or not. Latino Unidos is my motto. United for the betterment of all our brothers and sisters. No matter what degree of racial ancestry they have in them. I think this is the concept and approach we should all take because as we fight and argue among ourselves, the rich is getting richer and the poor is getting poorer and that is what I see in both areas Puerto Rico & the Dominican Republic. This element should be singled out, jailed and deported. Though I hate to admit it I read your post...and I disagree. If they're there illegally then they should be deported if aprehended. If I break the law here I must suffer the consequences, as should all. PR has problems of its own and illegal Dominicans should not be among them, bottom line. With that said, this article posted by incognito fails to mention that number of legal Dominicans in PR, thereby implying that the majority are illegal. I don't think that's the case at all. I've come across many legitimate and succesful Dominicans in my travels to PR. There are some zones on the island where most doctors are indeed Dominican. Why do I bring up the last factoid? Because it illustrates that the whole story involving Dominicans in DR is not being told. "If you're going through hell, keep going." - Winston Churchill |

I'm not sure why you are preaching Unity and peace with DR when you know in Haiti you Haitians are not even united. You should tell your Haitian people to have peace with Dominicans. This topic is not even about Haiti so let it go man. You just like to kill every thread. Haiti is the least important country in the western hemisphere. Most people have been to DR but have never heard of Haiti. Brasilenos4ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! I's just that many of the Dominicans on here send me messages calling me "prieto asqeuroso" (they think im Haitian) even though half of their country is black. I'm just showing them that many racist Puerto Ricans (and even other latino nationalities) think the same way about Dominicans. And I also believe in Latinos Unidos, it's just that Dominicans forget that Haitians are Latinos too. The fact that their skin is supposedly "pitch-black" doesn't change the culture and colonial roots that they share with other Latinos. |

They have settled down and intermarried with Puerto Ricans. The ones that I know aren't doing too bad out there. |
