Location: United States, Boston, MA Join date: October 2008 Member #: 1466 Posts: 3859 | MISS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | Throughout the History This thread was created with the sole purpose to honor and appreciate the participation of all the Dominican women who have competed, placed, and won in the Miss Universe and Miss World pageants. There are also other smaller pageants where the Dominican woman has placed, and that will be mentioned at a later time. Starting in 1956, the Dominican Republic has competed in the Miss Universe pageant which commenced in the year 1952. However, the Miss Dominican Republic pageant has been functioning since the year 1927. No international pageant was taking place then, and because of that they would not enter in any international pageant until 1956. In 1966, Jeanette Dotel Montes de Ocoa became the first Dominican woman to represent her country in the Miss World pageant. From that time, only two placements have been made until Mariasela Alvarez Lebron became the first Dominican winner in the year 1982. Since then, more placements have been made. Join date: April 2009 Member #: 2555 Posts: 3436 | RE: MISS DOMINICAN REPUBLIC | Throughout the History With all due respect to all Miss Dominican Republic in my personal opinion Miss DR 2009 was by far my favorite because he story reflects the reality that many Dominicans go thru everyday to make it to the big stage and even he mom in the interview recognized that she was not paying much attetion to her daugther's career. I believe she will have a very bright future because she is a beauty and hard worker and i wish all Dominican females look at her story and follow it too. I think is time Dominicanas get out of the shadows and head for main stages in many different fields. "People who don't like their beliefs being laughed at shouldn't have such funny beliefs" |
