Dangerous road between Santiago and San Jose de las Matas
If you ever drove from Santiago to SAJOMA you know what I am talking about. This is a very very dangerous curve that has been ignored for many years. If someone is not familiar with the roads and is speeding, they will be toast. At night this is very dark, the locals and people who drive to SAJOMA often will know the exact spot but get a tourist in a rental car and the tourist might not see it and have a fatal crash.

You need to slow down enough to be able to brake if you crash into on-coming traffic, but not too slow where you might get caught between the missing piece of road and a speeding car. I don't think that the cost to fix this is bank breaker, and SAJOMA is an area that gets alot of tourist that visit the rivers and alot of Dominicans that live in the states come back often. What can be done to fix this?

A big hazard indeed. The exact location is called La Bosua Curve, as you are driving up into the mountains right after passing Villa Bao its to your right. Drivind down from La Cuesta, its after Canete..This area is especially dangerous at night cause believe it or not, people do speed a lot on these big curves. The funny thing is Hipo and Jaquez both have investments in the area such as chicken farms and truck down the road quite a lot of money. The Pena family was a big PRD supporter, yet failed to get any real improvements for the very same road they need to get their goods out. PLD really doesn't care about this area because its a big PRD base, so we are basically stuck with this until something major happens and people die.

There are also no steel barriers along those cliffs. If you blow out a tire you could be gone. Yes, people do speed in that area. I have seen a Pepsi truck fly through all of the turns

Yeah I feared I was going to be run off due to not having barriers. Also, a tourist bus almost hit us head on the turn in question, if it's the same one.

The roads going to San Jose de Las Matas has gotten WAY BETTER since I was a kid though, especially going to where my dad's family is from in Hierba Buena.

You are lucky. I still have to drive about half hour more on dirt after SAJOMA just to get to my gandpa. I once found myself on the dirt road that connects El Rubio to Moncion going through the road next to la gallera. Its a one lane dirt road on the side of the mountain and I had to do reverse because a huge truck loaded with sacks was coming down. That was hairy

I have see a little memorial where someone died near that turn. I have passed that turn and a few seconds later there is someone driving fast coming towards me. Its just timing and if this is not fixed then there will be a big accident. But I don't know how many people have crashed on this turn, Sajomero might know.

San Jose de las Matas always is host to some of the biggest parties and the patronales are second to none. Big music stars are always around that area and have to drive on this road. I don't know how they risk it, they should all make a donation to fix the road. I am sure that one Anthony Santos concert can generate enough funds to fix this.
