He was received with an ovation and the unrestrained enthusiasm of young people for whom the sun was no obstacle (and thanks for the afternoon clouds). Impossible for it to begin in any other way: Havana heard live his emblematic A Dios le pido and the Colombian had a matchless chorus of 1.150 million people, as announced by Spaniard Miguel Bosé. Juanes told the public that he couldn’t believe what he was seeing and affirmed that the concert is "the most beautiful dream of peace and love after my children." A cluster of themes, pop rock, naturally, and ballads, until he came to La camisa negra sung, of course, by everybody in the Plaza de la Revolución, followed by It’s time to change (hate for love…) with Bosé. The duo also performed Nada particular (Sing and fly free like the dove sings…) As is evident from his beginnings, in a number of his songs (La Tierra, Fijaté bien, ¿Qué pasa?, Sueños, and more recently with themes like Minas Piedras, Bandera de Manos and Odio por Amor), Juanes is not indifferent to social problems in the world and, in particular, in his native Colombia. Juanes, who lives in the United States, has been voted by the U.S. People magazine as "the most outstanding Latin rock figure in the last decade." The Colombian has won 17 Latin Grammys and one Anglo Grammy, among other music prizes. Juanes convened no less than 1.150 million people, the majority of them youth, to peace in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución and they have responded to him "Yes!" Translated by Granma International |

So Fidel and Raul opened unlocked the doors to the jails and released the political prisoners. They apologized for the thousands they tortured and murdered,. They announced immediate Freedom of Speech and the Press. They announced free and open elections? ARE YOU REALLY THAT STUPID??????? Proof that dreadlocks is a Bigot ....... what did Cubans do to deserve preferential treatment? they did NOTHING! ......and treat Black people in the most racist of ways.......... the Cubans are just a bunch of uberracist savages, whom they try to avoid, at all costs. |

Juanes was not coy about asking the youth to take their destiny into their own hands on several occasions. Could somthing as simple as a concert be the catalyst that will bring down the regime??? who knows??? Im actually glad that these international artists did get to perform, even if it was for regime chosen individuals. In that huge mass of people there were also ordinary people that deserve a little taste of the outside world. Cuba is a place of deprivation and any disctraction from their hard reality, is a welcome distraction. |

And what is the difference between a real Cuban and a fake one? Let me guess, the real Cubans are the ones that want to, but can't leave, but wish every day that the Castro brothers Stalinist monarchy, which is Cuba's living nightmare, would some day vanish. You have to remember these kids are brainwashed, and they have no idea what freedom of choice, individual rights, or how different life is, outside the island prison of Cuba, they were born inside the Cuban gulag and never been outside. As prisoners being given a free concert, any little token or good will gesture is grabbed quickly by the entertainment hungry masses. "Speak softly, and carry a big stick, you will go far". |

I guess gen would have a better chance of living a long life in Cuba than in Haiti - or a number of other S. American countries. And would he like to be a slave in Brazil? http://www.crs.org/brazil/slave-labor/ crs is not a communist. Liberalisationin Cuba if not handled carefully could result in another Haiti. People would like to see a social democracy with strong health, education and social services in Cuba. But the way to achieve this is not to let the fromer landowners emigrated to US take over. I saw some photos of a prison in Cuba used by the Batista regime, conditions were unimaginable. Regardless of political ideology many people regard Castro as a brilliant figure - his five revolutionary laws were hugely influential. Land right changes, rights to workers and 'employment to the jobless' have been accepted by many governments. This is not to say there were not flaws - but compared to some governments in the World over the lst 50 years he has stood out as a beacon of hope. S. S. |

Empty rhetoric, doomsday predictions, and "if" scenarios, don't thread water in my statement of facts. Batista was kicked out in 1959 for God's sake. Stick and try focusing in the subject matter. The problem with Cuban revolutionary ideology is that they are stuck in a "time warp" in 1960 and haven't moved and inch since then. Look at the unification process in the GDR after the fall of the USSR for some hints, on how to appease the exile land claims, these Cuban tactics of "the gusanos are going top come and take away your apartment and land", is just more of the same type propaganda like "blame all ills on the blockade" BS, that Cubans are constantly being fed, and are sick and tired of. The Cuban dictatorship and brand of socialism, is bankrupt and out of sync with the rest of the world, even comparing it to other socialist "paradises" like Vietnam and China. The Cuban dictatorship and brand of socialism, is bankrupt and out of sync with the rest of the world, even comparing it to other socialist "paradises" like Vietnam and China. The problems is that is seems to have worked for so long in many aspects. I believe Vietnam allows land claimants to lease a small plot - sufficient for a house -rent free for 50 years. This doesn't seem so bad. Historically many of them got their land for free anyway after 'favors' for dictators. GDR was different in many ways - Since Bismark there was a developed land tenure system and appropriate land taxes. Greedy get rich quick types in Miami are fueling the present tensions. Contacts I have with frequent vistitors to Cuba say many Cubans are happy - they wouldn't go out to celebrate otherwise just as in the latter days of the GDR when the government organized pop concerts etc. the people stayed at home. So again Gen you are talking nonsense. As I have said before - get a balance. S. S. |
