Hate to say it but was thinking along the same lines. A while ago I was asking myself if he knew it existed, or if it was just his preference not to participate in the forum.

And so, my fellow "Dominicans", ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

Dominican food is so rich and flavorful with all the natural herbs and spicies that are used to prepare Dominican dishes.

Yet and still, the food we prepare doesn't get as much recognition as Cuban Food when in fact it's still very similar.

Is it because Dominicans don't know how to market the product to mainstream America? or is it because Fidel Castro has created a phemomenon with his secretive rule of Cuba?

Its because Cuban food is better!

"Its because Cuban food is better!"

That's all a matter of opinion and nothing else.

IMO, it's because that dominicans are still new to americans and haven't crossed over into mainstream as the Cubans. Tell this day I haven't seen the dominican presented in a formal matter with a small cup of moro and goat with a splash of watercress on a white sparkling plate. Besides, the dominican people have not presented their gourmet to the standards of posh. The average dominican prefer to take out at the best whole in the wall where he can get a bandera for 7 times less than the prior mention above and turn on to the baseball game and flush it down with a couple of presidentes.. I think once dominicans have paid their dues and accepted in mainstream america then maybe someone will come up with the idea. Then I will have to open one up..lol..its all about the cuarto baby..lol..

I have to disagree with you on DR not having a staple dish, dreadlocks....Arroz, habichuelas, y carne (Rice, beans, and stewed meat) is known as "la bandera" and is DR's staple dish. The only reason DR food does not get the same recognition as Cuban food is because of what has already been mentioned in this forum regarding marketing/advertising/ and becoming mainstream. Now as far as the too much oil, too much salt comment, that really is a matter of personal taste. I personally love jamaican beef patties for example and those things are one the greasiest, spiciest things I've ever had, but I think they are delish.
