There is nothing special about Dominican airports. Even the "non tourist airports" are taxed at a high rate. Shouldn't we pay less to land in SD and Santiago? Most of the flights are filled with people going back home to visit family, if they would lower the taxes more people would fly back home more often. Local vendors would benefit from the increase flow. Airlines have specials all the time but when you add the taxes into the total cost, its not a real deal. |

That is the problem SD, Santiago, Punta Cana, and Puerto Plata should be enough, but everyone wants to have their own small planes. Samana, La Romana, the southwest and all other small airports can be scratched and instead just have a helecopter landing zone only |

High air taxes are good. People pay an extra few dollars but have the convenience of landing near their resort / destination. They also encourage people to take fewer flights and longer breaks thus conserving the World's resources. Someone spending 2000-3000 dollars on a 3 week break does not mind if the airport service is good. Cheapskates wanting to travel cheaply should: a. stow away on a banana boat. b. buy an old 30' yacht and sail here. c. wait for the A380 to reduce fares. d. fly a hot air balloon hot air from this forum would do. e. travel virtually via their computer. On the tourist sector you have to folk over $20US to get in and out. Just think about all the boteyas and barrilito that need to get filled "Any 20 year-old who isn't a liberal doesn't have a heart, and any 40 year-old who isn't a conservative doesn't have a brain. S. Actually the airport service is not that great. The planes are going to fly no matter what, why not fill each seat? Its not about being cheap, its about letting the people have more money in their pockets to spend around the local towns |
