Haitians are taking over Dajabon again !!
Now, that have your attention it appear the reversed is happening on a border town call ouanamitnhe located on the Haitian side. More cooperation like that is what needed. these are the proper steps in the right direction with the goal of ultimately lowering the pressure on immigration to DR. Anyone care to comment.

The Haitian city of Ouanaminthe (Juana Méndez), north, bordering the Dominican Republic, receives such an influence of the neighboring country to the gourde, Haiti's currency, has been displaced by the Dominican peso.

The residents of this town, located 600 meters from the center of Dajabón (northwest Dominican), recognize that the influence of its neighbors is so strong that even the Creole language prevailing in Haiti, is being displaced by the Spanish, language official in the Dominican Republic.

Excluding official institutions, signs identifying the business premises and other local projects are written in Spanish.

The people of Ouanaminthe also argue that investment in the neighboring country has had a major impact on their development.

Now a Dominican firm built the international highway linking the Dominican province of Dajabon with Cap-Haitien, Haiti's second city.

This project included the paving of various streets in Ouanaminthe, who just a year ago were dusty and covered with sewage, said community leader Rene Pinanthe.

Dominican investment is also verified in the development of trade and in that sense, there Ouanaminthe and modern supermarkets, pharmacies, hardware stores, bars, restaurants and other establishments that did not exist, according to Joseph Pinan merchant.

"Dominicans have had a leading role in the development of this city, quality of life of people has changed, our currency has less value every day against the Dominican peso and even the Spanish language is what prevails here," said .

Meanwhile, Chip Roul labor leader said that the zone which operates the Dominican consortium Grupo M in Ouanaminthe has also contributed to massive economic boost for the town.

Currently, the city of Ouanaminthe also has a radio and a television channel, owned by Dominican businessman Antony Mars.

The station began broadcasting in Creole, but because many of the Haitians living in Ouanaminthe speak more Spanish, it was necessary to share programming between spaces that identify the culture of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.

However, the inhabitants of this city complain that the economic development it has experienced in the past three years has motivated a large displacement of Haitians living in other towns.

"The Haitian Ouanaminthe has a lifestyle very different from that carried by living elsewhere. Here is a strong exchange of trade with the Dominican Republic and people always have opportunities for livelihood, no one goes hungry," the trader Mirtinette ogui.

"I think Ouanaminthe is that Haitian and Dominican, in fact, when we do not go to Cap Haitien and Port au Prince to make any claim we care why do we not go to Dajabon or the city of Santiago, because those who live here are more Dominicans than Haitians, "said student Mary Pool.

Also people used to express many Dominicans sayings which increases the perception that visitors Ouanaminthe is a Dominican village.

When the Haitians who come from other people "behave badly, tell them to change their behavior because, otherwise, we send for your country, because here we do not accept Haitians," he said in a joking manner the student Pool.

However, another interviewee, Jean Pierre, said that the development of Ouanaminthe is leaving behind major cities like Cap Haitien, Trou du Nord, Millot, Gonaives, Fort Liberte and others.

"This situation has prompted a massive migration and hence an increase in criminal acts," he said, while acknowledging that the Haitian police and members of the Mission of the UN Stabilization in Haiti (MINUSTAH) are doing a good job in order to ensure the safety of the population.

I don't see why this is a horrible thing. Most people in the American continent speak spanish they way i look at it is only a matter of time before spanish will be speak in every country in this continent. In a thread i started long time ago it was called "Hispaniola 2050 what would it look like". I said that it was only a matter or time before spanish start to be something most Haitian will need to learn due to the fact that is the main language around everything that surrounds Haiti. Even here in USA is only a matter of time before this event start to take place Hey just look at Walmart with a brand new line of new market called "Supermercado Walmart" and almost everything is in spanish there and i have been there twice and is always pack so they are already thinking about a whole country roll-out.

The spanish influence is enormous, I am the opinion they should get rid of french and teach either spanish or portuguese as a second language period.
