Immigration neutralizes development
Immigration neutralizes development
French political scientist Aymeric Chauprade said that the Dominican Republic would not be able to implement a development strategy to improve the lot of millions of its poor citizens as long as it continues to tolerate uncontrolled Haitian migration. He added that issues surrounding this problem are also generating negative publicity in the European Union. He said that, "all policies that try to get the poorest class into the middle class are going to be affected by this migration, and President Fernandez understands this perfectly." Accompanied by Rosanna Pons, the Coordinator of Geopolitical Studies at the Global Democracy and Development Foundation (Funglode), Chauprade, a critic of United States foreign policy and a defender of the move towards the left currently under way in Latin America, said that the solution to the Haitian problem is not in the hands of the Dominican Republic or the United States, or even France.
He said that "the problem in Haiti is one of identity... and they won't find their political stability until they find their identity."

The French really have no say in this...if they had not asked for all that money from Haiti...our country would be on par...if not years or decades ahead of D.R.

I agree with most of what you said, but i don't think the president is aware of the damage the Haitan immigration is doing to the country, if he did than he's an asshole for not doing anything about it....

Where is the contrarian Josean? Is this a 'racist and xenophobic' comment? Where are all those who try to hide behind these sensationalist words? DR is in trouble with this issue, there is absolutely no doubt about it.

I will say this again not only that, if the Haitian reaches 5-6 million not even Trujillo or Balaguer coming out from their grave will be able to solve our Haitian problem and repatriate them. As Michaela stated previously what is going to happen is the same that happened in Yugoslavia. Haitian will become a legal minority in our country and will be protected with teeth and nail by the international community. At some point when we try to exercise our sovereign we will be invaded to "protect" the Haitian’s right.

He has been considered an 'asshole' by many on this specific issue for quite some time now. It's not rocket science, this issue will not allow real socioeconomic advancement for your average Dominican.

What I really fail to understand is, what are the countries real thinkers opinion on this? What if we got 5 of the worlds greatest economist to explain why this is bad, are they still going to pay it much mind? Or is it like some traveling Domincians tell me, it's as if everyone is infected by an attitude of indifference.

Actually what I think is that as long as the Haitian people have your mentality of EXCUSE. They will not be able to come out of the circle. What about us our country was left in piece after Ulises Heureaux sold our country.

....You think D.R. have had it worse than Haiti.....i don't think it has. Haiti has gone through worse than your D.R. and we might be in a precarious position now....but trust me when i say something is being done.

USDR you are a very articulate person and know your stuff. Look at our history over the last 60 year. Check each government and see for yourself which one protected our DOMINICANISMO and which one recklessly squandered our resources.
