i know that luis vargas has kind of plummeted in recent years but i give it to the man he keeps himself busy. he will play anywhere and i know because i have seen him play in the sleeziest dives! we can't forget the great blas duran who ushered in the modern bachata era. el torito is no bachatero im sorry and the guy is badd in a good way. he is more merenguero by far and his credentials point more to merengue than bachata.

He's a romantic merengue singer and that doesn't pay the bills in the U.S. and DR any more unfortunately except for a select few (Sergio and Fernandito, and maybe Ruby). His formula of adopting vallenatos has worked out well for him, and I don't blame him for doing it considering the success he's had.

Artists like Hector Acosta and Aventura and Juan Luis Guerra before them have broadened the Bachata genre. Saying they are not "real" bachateros is like saying the Beatles weren't real rock musicians.

what the hell are you talking about? aventura is a different style of bachata that reaches to the urban masses first of all. hector acosta has not broadened bachata in my opinion in comparision to juan luis guerra. juan luis guerra i will give you that one. la leyenda. aventura before luis vargas and blas duran? El torito y anthony santos son bachatero de pura sepa

Aventura sells out 18,000 seat venues, Antony Santos & El Torito sell out 100 capacity restaurant venues. Not even comparable in terms of popularity or marketable scope.

Yea but Aventura is equivalent to bubble gum pop in the Bachata genre...Antony Santos and others are the real deal...it's like saying MC Hammer truly represents hip hop because of his record sales...if you say that to anyone that really knows hip hop they'll have a good laugh at your expense. Aventura does not put out what's referred to as "bachata para hombre con pelo en el pecho".

It may be comparable to bubble Gum pop music, but it is what's selling and making it's mark. Something Anthony Santos hasn't done and probably cant do( why ? he too Dominican). Aventura's as you said bubble gum music is what could translate and move bachata closer to the stage of recognition in the US. Much like the early Rap artist who were the real movers and opened the road for acceptance in the US to mainstream America. Unless you are old school no one knows who Spoony G, Afrika Bambaata, or Crash Crew. Hell MJ didnt really take off until MTV moved him into mainstream America by playing his videos.

Bottom line these are just small steps that can move Dominican Culture i.e music, food, arts etc closer to the main stream and acceptance.

RE: Mira Esto!!! Aventura in the White House

Hell most dont know that Juan Luis Guerra opened the road for the acceptance of bachat into mainstream Dominican culture with his "Bachata Rosa" cd. Before that Bachata was considered low class, music of house of ill repute etc.

Most people who listen to Bachata Rosa dont know that its Bachata.

werent you the same person that said if we take away the essential main ingredients to our cooking we would be lost? i say that because you mentioned food. who cares if our food appeals to non dominicans or not. as far as music aventura has made their mark you are right. anthony santos is for the hard core dominicans.
