Would you support a re-call law in the DR
Would you support a law in the Dominican Republic that would allow its citizens to re-call their elected officials if they are found to be derelict in their duties and/or betray the public trust?
Why?
Or Why not?

good idea but the dirty politicos can buy the public. The majority of the population is poor and the politico just have to host a huge fiesta with food and drinks to buy the public

To answer your question i would support that. But if we look at our constitution that is where the problem resides and something they have not talked about because it won't benefit any senator.

That's the problem why does everything they approve into a law is based on majority of vote but when it comes to kicking out a funcionario they have to get 75 percent of the vote to fire the funcionario. I think here we have to look and read the constitution and next time the revise it make sure the public knows where changes need to be made to make it easier to taken them out of power and into a court if corruption is to have happened. So they make it hard for them to be kicked out.

Belly,

Is it possible then to argue that the problem in establishing a framework for accountability in the DR lays not so much with the politicians; but with the lack of interest and involvement form the populace?

In my opinion the more i read the into the Dominican Constitution the more i convince my self the text and words chosen is only to protect politician and to leave some cases up to judges which are not any better. We either have to come together and i mean really come together for one purpose which is the hard part or option 2 do what most Macorisanos did in the 90s where they started to take laws into their own hand which did clear up some corruption and has show politicians that because the laws is on their side doesn't mean they are safe to do as they please. To me the way out of this mess is going to be option 2 to start the process and get the ball rolling and then once we get the law on our side put down the brugal and presidente and get down to bussiness and start focusing in candidates and demand more action and less talk. Unless option number 2 happens they will never allow a framework of accountability to go by their eyes.
