RE: What is "El Cibao"?
"The Cibao valley is not only a geographical unit, but also a cultural and linguistic unit. A typical dialect of Spanish is spoken in the area, including several regional idiomatic phrases, expressions, and a particular way of speaking. A "cibaeño" can be identified because of his substitution of the "R" and "L" phonetic sounds at the end of syllables for short "I" sounds while speaking."

The only thing I can say is response that I'm certain that were I'm from is the cibao, without a shadow of a doubt (Baitoa, Santiago province). Just the fact that it CAN be debated if the people on the north coast and near the frontier are cibaeños is revealing in of itself.

Do you consider Valverde to be part of the Cibao? Cuz' I consider it so judging by my experience with my father, who is from that place, and that no matter the many years that he has living here on the capital, hasn't stopped from speaking with the "i's", nor from being a furious aguilucho fan or enjoying a Perico Ripiao, the same applying to my paternal grandparents.

El Cibao is thrown around alot in this site, it's some magical area of the DR full of light skinned mulattos and whites who can't pronounce their R's, but WHERE is el Cibao?

Some people have said it's the entire northern region, but other's say most of the northern region except for Samana and Puerto Plata since they're majority black?

Some are even saying El Cibao is Central DR, away from the Border and the coast, but how about San Juan de La Managua? Pretty black area and is in central DR?

Some are even saying el Cibao is just La Vega-Santiago-Monsenor Nouel?

Well here's a regional map of the DR:

Out of all of those SUB-regions, which are the ones where one will see the REAL Cibao? I'm guessing Cibao Central is one of them?

cantante your so right this is a great description of the cibao, the cibao is not just a different giographic region but it also has a totally diffrent culture and even the racial composition is very different exept for puerto plata, samana, monte cristi and dajabon most of the people in the cibao look more like cubans or boricuas most true cibaenos are either very light mulatos or white.. anyway this is the best region in the country i think we represent the true dominicans....

ADMIT IT PLATANOS:

This Cibao concept is something you made up to prove that most Dominicans are Light skinned Mulattos. Isn't it funny how all of the provinces you seem to exclude from El Cibao (which are GEOGRAPHICALLY Cibaeno) are the majority black ones like Dajabon and Montecrisiti? You can't include black provinces into the all-exclusive "Cibao" club because then the Boricuas won't think you're as White as them! boo hoo hoo! Most Dominicans are black but it doesn't make you light skinned Mulatto Dominicans any less Dominican, quit worrying about what others will think and stop trying to prove that the DR is some white country.

Ahhh shit the fuck up... this is not made up the cibao being a region populated by mostly mulatos who look more white then black or by whites is a fact... actually some people want the ciabao to be a different nation we are very different from dominicans from the south and the east we should have our own little country and deport all the people from puerto plata, samana, dajabon ect...... and the capital could be here in my city santiago de los caballeros man that would be nice....
