and she thought the sun shined out of his ass he was so bright she called him sonny Everyone else called him Hijo de this and Hijo de that

One of the weak points of Trujillo that led to his eventual demise and ambush, was his predictability. Everyone knew that he visited his mother most afternoons, and the day he was killed he visited his mother, in the afternoon, then went to his usual malecón stroll with his cronies and sycophants, and then left to pay a visit to his mistress in San Cristobal, where he never arrived since he was shot full of lead on the way there.

What I don't get Generoso and never seen people write about is that how in defensive he was at the time of the ambush. A person as totalitarian as Trujillo in another country will have a brigade right beside him to move him from point A to point B. Could it be that he though nobody could try to do anything to him that is why he wasn't well armed?

Genoroso I spent 5 years working with Venancio Alzaga who was DeLa Mazas Spanish cunado he was at his home giving Spanish Language lessons to DeLa Mazas children the night of the assassination and spent a few months in detention and was tortured at San Isidro ......I did not know this until I read it in a book ....and I like to think of myself as a bit of a history buff .... Venancio passed about 4 years ago but I did get to talk about these things with him finally before he passed

It is odd how many tyrants are momma's boys in some form, from Alexander the Great on down. The psychology of these men is intriguing to me.

I have my own theories regarding his apparent disenchantment with his life
and his carelessness in having an armed convoy escorting him.
I will explain a little later.

A few months ago there was a brilliant Haitian psychologist that did a profile on Trujillo in DT, in another thread and I wish I would have saved it, but what you said is so true, he said the inferiority complexes, come from the fact that his father was very dominant and his mother protective, and he was an overachiever. He also was uncertain about his legitimacy and apparently was infected by the US Marines, in his anti-black and anti Haitian bigotry, being the strong dominant father figure to him the US Marines, that he worshiped and was trained under.

Thanks Buddy, I appreciate your kind words. How many years? Let me tell you, I feel so good that I fear that something bad is going to happen soon. LOL. And I look in the mirror and see somebody that I don't really know that well. LOL. But my age is classified.LOL
And stay away from the riff raff, you are wasting your time, they are losers if you know what I mean.

I enjoyed the recreation of the shooting of Trujillo, but the actor who played Trujillo was too feeble and a lightweight to portray the real "El Jefe", who was stocky and carried himself with a lot more class.

An armed escort was offered that morning to accompany him to San Cristobal and he rejected it, he was certainly overconfident and complacent, and he made a mistake that cost him his life.
Had he have had an armed escort or convoy (like Balaguer used to have) with vehicles in front and rear, and a jeep with a .30 caliber in the front, his assailants would have had a hard time, finalizing their ambush, since they almost blundered the assault anyway.
Trujillo, I think was suffering from senile depression and had a death wish. The Americans wanted him out after many years of unconditioned support, and he felt betrayed. His son Ramfis was a disappointment, having failed his military schooling in the US, and living a life of a playboy and raconteur in Paris. The DR was under a blockade and international siege, and he was short of cash, since he had invested most of his money in the DR, in haciendas, sugar plantations and businesses.
The Mirabal sisters murders had polarized public opinion against him and the catholic church also had turned their backs at him, and issued a public letter condemning the regime.
He refused to go into exile to Spain, as was offered by the US and Francisco Franco, and his remarks at the time to the American mediator that made the offer was: "I will rather die in my country anytime".
So his death wish became reality.
