Many of us have been raised in the states or come from families that have been in the states for some tome. With that said Thanksgiving has undoubtebly become one of our own holidays here in the states, albeit with a latin twist in some hoesholds such as my own. Yea, we'll have the traditional fixings but alongside the Turkey and its usual companions there will be the uniquitous pernil with arroz con gandules, ensalda rosada, etc... How do you guys celebrate Thanksgiving out there? Have some of you gone full Norteamericano or are there elements of our traditional culture in the way your household celebrates? Do you know of anyone that celebrates the holiday back in DR (which actually makes no sense to do so but I've seen done anyway)? "If you're going through hell, keep going." - Winston Churchill |

I have the best of 3 worlds, when celebrating a Holiday........mi mujer es Americana-Italiana and her mother and her cooks some amazing Italian dishes........her sister is married to an American chef and the guy cooks some fantastic dishes......and my parents cook the most YUMMMMMMMMMYLICIOUS Dominican dishes......... I can truly say that on Thanksgivings, I am a very happy TURKEY!. JAJAJAJA. PS: I personally know 2 families in the DR that celebrate Thanksgiving. Edited on 11/24/2009 1:55 PM by TuPapaupa. When I've gone to my mom's side for Thanksgiving (much more "ethnic" if you will and living in lower income areas) it's full on how you described with the Dominican dishes. One year there was only turkey because WE brought it. When we celebrate it in our home it's become increasingly assimilated to the point of no difference at this point. Hell my mom even get's a organic turkey now. |
