Now, anyone who knows me here at Gather knows that I was among those who worried about Obama becoming President because of all the ideas he had – like playing Robinhood and stealing from the “rich” to give to the “poor.” But in all of the discussions in which I took part – here and on other forums – I never heard anyone used the term “Obamunism.” The writer of the email I received and a few others where I’ve researched about “Obamunism” seem to think that the term was actually first used by one of Obama’s czars. If that’s true, it’s not very smart on the part of the czar, at least in my opinio Here’s part of what the email that I received said: Despite recent setbacks, the free-market revolution unleashed by Ronald Reagan continues to make strides in country after country. Unfortunately, those countries don't include the United States. Here, the trend is towards what has been dubbed "Obamunism," which, if coined by one of his czars, was surely meant as a compliment. This same economic philosophy used to be known as Carternomics, described by Reagan as: "If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidize it." But back to the good news... Surprisingly, the latest country to show signs of new economic freedom is, of all places, Cuba -- where, according to the Washington Post, "The Cuban government, in its most dramatic reform since [Raul] Castro took over for his ailing older brother Fidel three years ago, is offering private farmers... the use of fallow state lands to grow crops -- for a profit." In fact, it's working so well, they're even thinking about renaming "The Bay of Pigs" to "The Bay of Capitalist Pigs"... But I digress... Even more surprisingly, the Post didn't include some derogatory qualifier before the word "profits" in the sentence quoted above, perhaps having recently noticed the desirability of "profits" on account of the absence of such a concept from the Post's balance sheet. It's so bad over there, the Washington Post's Facebook account was recently de-friended by the IRS Fan Page. Maybe U.S. pharmaceutical companies should think about relocating to Cuba. Just being awarded Fidel Castro's personal prescription benefit account would be worth a small fortune. Of course, the Cubans don't call what they're doing "capitalism," just as Obama doesn't call what he's doing "socialism" -- and just as Ralph Nadar doesn't call his hair "Bird's Nestism," Joe Biden's doctor doesn't call his condition "Diarrhea of the Mouth-ism," Nancy Pelosi's plastic surgeon doesn't call her "his annuity," and Arnold Schwarzenegger doesn't call it, well, I couldn't really understand what he said... Instead, Raul Castro is calling it "the new Socialist model." (If they were smart, they would focus on the newest Eastern European models -- but enough about Charlie Sheen.) Which is almost as Orwellian as Barack Obama calling his proposed government takeover of one-sixth of the American economy as an attempt to "foster competition." And it's not just communist countries like Cuba, China, and Vietnam, noticing the benefits of the free market. Even godless, European social welfare states are throwing off the shackles of socialism. Despite incessant claims that the "rest of the world hates us," Germany just elected a center-right coalition that promised to slash taxes, entitlements, and regulatory burdens on businesses. Every country in the world is becoming more like America, except America, which is becoming more like Finland. The email was from Ann Coulter and its purpose was to introduce a newsletter from Mark Skousen, Ph.D. called Forecasts & Strategies. The newsletter is about finances and investments and how to protect your money from the Obamunists. I’m not in a position to invest money in an investment newsletter at this time, nor to invest money in much of anything. But the idea that someone was calling what’s happening to our economy and our government “Obamunism” peaked my interest. In a Google search about “Obamunism” many of the results were for sites selling t-shirts The comments on those web sites are interesting: I guess his Obamunism got him the nod because "hoping really hard" should not be enough to meet the criteria for changing the world. Following the rise of Marxism, socialism, communism, and Barack Obama. One of the t-shirts being sold said: Obamunism: Work hard. Other people need your money. Barack Obama, inflicting Obamunism on the US, will raise taxes on capital gains, dividends, social security, medicare and ordinary income, which will destroy incentives to work, save and invest. This will result in less economic growth, less job growth, and as a consequence, less overall tax revenue. 2) A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. Obamunism is exactly like socialism except it is newer, shinier and less icky sounding. 3) The new political religion created by our new president Obama. 4) American communism. Due to recent government bailouts, the country is moving quickly towards Obamunism. 5) Communists and Socialists and Marxists of America unite! We finally have a real president who holds our values dear. We support Obama because he wants to nationalize health care, take money from hard-working Americans to give to the poor, and make one class of people. Hooray for communism! Hooray for Obama! Hooray for Obamunism! 6) O-bom-yuh-niz-uh m - Noun – A political ideology whose namesake is Barack Hussein Obama, the 44th President of the United States. It is a potent blend of Socialism and Fascism which is enforced by a network of community organizers, labor unions, trial lawyers, environmentalists, and dominant media corporations. This network derives its power by pandering to a permanent underclass of recipients of countless varieties of government transfer payments. The current agenda of the national Democrat party is rooted in Obamunism. Of interest: The Urban Dictionary also offers these terms: Obamobsessed: The ridiculous obsession with President Obama by the American public and the news media. Obamunist: One who believes in relinquishing freedom to a supreme all-knowing government. And, a person or persons believing in and following Obamunism as new form of governmen This site about Obamunism has a few videos of Glenn Beck talking about Obama’s czars. (Liberal Democrats who have not heard these should listen to them.) Obamunism There are lots of other videos posted there and a bit of information about Obama’s mother. It quotes Obama as having said that his mother was “the dominant figure in my formative years. The values she taught me continue to be my touchstone when it comes to how I go about the world of politics.“ The page shows that she was an atheist and influenced by Marxist and communist ideas taught in her classrooms. That site also provides this link to Pravda’s “American Capitalism Gone With A Whimper”. Here’s some of that that article said: It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American decent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people. True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists. Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters. First, the population was dumbed down through a politicized and substandard education system based on pop culture, rather then the classics. Americans know more about their favorite TV dramas then the drama in DC that directly affects their lives. They care more for their "right" to choke down a McDonalds burger or a BurgerKing burger than for their constitutional rights. Then they turn around and lecture us about our rights and about our "democracy". Pride blind the foolish. To read more, click the link above. The Uncyclopedia talks of Obama and Obamunism as well. It’s a spoof encyclopedia site. Or is it? How much of this is real? Obamunism is the worship of the one true God, Barack Obama. Followers of this religion believe in Change, Hope, and Change; they also like having fun and doing stuff. Change and Hope are always capitalized to show reverence, because they are the holy words of Obama. Fighting Obamunism with Capitalism! At the Patriotic Dissent page there are articles and stuff to buy. One bumper sticker says: Obamacare, the trillion dollar band-aid. Then there is this: Down With Obamunism Part of that article: From the early 1950s, after federal spending settled down following World War II, until last year under President Obama's neo-socialist revolution, federal spending was stable during those 50 plus years at around 20% of GDP. Today, after one year, the federal government is 40% larger at about 28% of GDP, a national tragedy in terms of lost economic freedom. But federal projections show that by 2040 federal spending will soar to close to 40% of GDP, due primarily to the exploding entitlement programs Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. Dumping Obama's national health care program on top will just make the situation much worse. Add in state and local government spending, and total government spending will be well over 50% of GDP. Counting the Obama spending increases and the negative effects on the economy from all this Overwhelming Government, total government spending will grow to over 60% of GDP. If anything even close to this happens, America will be over. Here’s a story about a young couple who have done quite well selling Obamunism t-shirts and other fare. The story says that at first they sold one per day during the election campaign in 2008, then as things heated up they sold more than 50 per day. As of July, 2009 they had sold over $50,000 in Obamunism t-shirts. Good for them! I guess they didn’t need a government hand-out to make a success of something. :-) The Obamunism Bikini Enforcing Obamunism This site talks about the OFA – Organizing for America. Obama describes OFA as a "grass-roots movement" but OFA is a "project" of the Democratic National Committee. As Politico reported, OFA will take the 10 million person database built up by the Obama campaign "to mobilize support for the president's legislative agenda." A visit to the OFA website reveals that supporters are not simply asked to sign up, they are asked to take a pledge. A pledge to support — not the flag, not the constitution, not the country, not even the Democratic party, but Obama and his "bold plan." … Those who take the pledge are asked to "talk with people about the President's plan" and to "ask them to sign their names to the pledge" in support of Obama's policies. America has no precedents for OFA, but other countries do. Did Mitch Stewart, youthful director of OFA, who asks Obama's acolytes to organize "neighborhood by neighborhood" study anything at school about Mao's "Red Guards? How about Fidel Castro's "widespread system of neighborhood informers"? Or Hugo Chavez's use of "neighborhood committees"? Change has come to America, all right. We are in the early stages of a socialist dictatorship. There is even a YouTube video called Obamunism. . Obamunism Infects the Washington Times Obamunism Kills What is Left of the Economy We can’t spend our way to wealth, and when you’re broke, the worst thing you can do is borrow more money. Location: Dominican Republic, No Spin Zone Join date: October 2009 Member #: 3809 Posts: 10122 | RE: Let’s Talk About Obamunism Which Ism Best Describes Obamunism? It is Socialistic because it aims to distribute costs across all demographics by any other means than the free market or any basis for security of private property. If the whole country gets sick enough everyone is supposed to get poor enough to take care of everyone else – always with the notable exception of the elite – who always have their own plans – their own escape hatch. And the government is going to make it all cost less – just this once. The cost factors can also be expanded indefinitely as "advances" in medicine become more and more costly. This is convenient for the government solvers of bigger and bigger problems. A larger government budget tends to have more wiggle room for pork barrel. It is Fascistic, in that it aims to involve government and business in various combinations in order to control or regulate outcomes – always directing more wealth and power to the centralized authority. The authoritarian consolidation of business and government is the essence of Fascism. It is not allowed by our Constitutions. It is Communistic, to the degree that it is consistent with the Communist Manifesto. Review the Communist Manifesto if you need to. Then read Ron Paul’s Manifesto. One of these things is not like the other. Communism has always evolved into some sort of Animal Farm where an Elite makes one set of secret rules for itself and another for the Proles. It is marketed as leveling but results in class envy and class warfare. Human beings naturally tend toward some sort of free market solutions within the context of any economic environment. In prison, anything that is contraband becomes "money." A communist country is a larger version of a prison. You can’t come and go as you please. If you can’t leave your healthcare plan – perhaps it has communistic characteristics? Are we living in a free country – or is it getting more and more like Animal Farm? Obviously some Americans are more Equal than others. Outcome-based economics of any description can never be made lawful. All of the unlawful isms involve this characteristic to one extent or another. In other words the ends always justify the means. At the core of all their means is the problem of theft by or through government, or mutual plunder as Bastiat would call it. Once this corrupt government owns healthcare it will be run so poorly that they will be forced to prohibit competition. Monopolies are bad. Government monopolies are worse. Free market competition always embarrasses government-controlled business efforts. Perhaps those who support the plan should be asked to justify it by recourse to the Constitution, private property rights, individual sovereignty and Liberty. The concept of Equal Protection Under the Law must be abandoned under such a plan. It is also Criminal in nature because it involves taking property from one citizen, by force if necessary, and giving to another who has not earned it. Bastiat maintained that an act cannot be decriminalized merely by changing the perpetrator’s name to "government." The Rich Abstain from Obamunism It is unjust to single out a part of your population as either the cause of your problems, or whom you must hit hard to make your life better. We are all people, and all of us are Fallen, and all of us bear our aliquot portion of blame for what has gone wrong and, of course, have our personal responsibility to see that things improve. To say that “The Rich” benefited under Bush and must now pay under Obama merely means that you are going to unjustly blame some people for things you had a hand in screwing up. We need to do things – we need to defend ourselves, maintain and improve our common property, succor the poor and helpless…lots of things need to be done. But to go on a boondoggle of new spending which is entirely designed to pay off political supporters of Obama and his Democrats and demand an allegedly wicked “The Rich” foot the bill is unjust – and, as you can see from our collapsing stock market, counter-productive. You think you know what the deficit will be for fiscal year 2009? You haven’t a clue, because as the stock market loses value, incomes around the economy drops and thus down goes taxable income…you liberals are massively increasing spending and cutting income off right at the knees at the very moment you need to maximize it. “Stupid” doesn’t even begin to describe this course of action you’ve chosen. You need to pony up, liberals – stop thinking of yourselves as superior beings who bear no share of what went wrong. You were there, too – you can ignore it all you want, but your Frank and Dodd and Biden and Obama were all there, right at the top of the heap, helping to make the decisions which screwed the economic pooch in the United States. We have to change – and real change, not the fake change your man Obama is engineering. We need to retrench – cut spending down to the most life and death vital things and cut taxes and regulations on business development which hinder the creation of new wealth. We’ve lost probably trillions in national wealth over the past year, and the only way we’re going to get out of it is to make it back, again. But this time, with wisdom – not with a phony baloney credit system built on air, but on our making, mining and growing things. Or, you can put your faith in Obama and hope against hope that, some how, spending money we don’t have will make us rich. Your choice – and if you choose as I think you will, we conservatives will reap the electoral benefit in 2010 and 2012. Another video: What do Socialism, Eugenics, and Darwinism have in common? Barack Hussein Obama! "One of the traditional methods of imposing statism or socialism on a people has been by way of medicine. It's very easy to disguise a medical program as a humanitarian project." - Ronald Reagan There are so many more examples of web sites about Obamunism. I’m not sure how I missed them before. I won’t again. When conservatives claim that Obama’s programs are socialist programs, liberals respond with a narrow definition of socialism and say that’s not what Obama is doing or planning. Or they’ll point out that there are already socialist programs in the United States – like our fire and police departments – as if, somehow, two wrongs make a right. If a conservative tries to show that Obama’s programs are fascist or communist, liberals respond, again, with a narrow definition of those isms and say that Obama’s programs are not that. The article above that points out how there are parts of Obamacare that are each of these – socialist, fascist and communist – makes an excellent point. And, if Obama’s policies and programs do have parts of each of these, then the term “Obamunism” is one that we should be using. What Obamuism is, exactly, is difficult to describe and define. What it is not is what our founding fathers envisioned and planned for us. It is certainly not capitalist, and it ignores the Constitution and the Republic that is the United States. One can only imagine that is why Obama studied Constitutional law, so he could find ways to circumvent the Constituion. al capo di tutti capi de los trolls |

Apparently some don't agree with you. But I would just LOVE to hear your reasons why Bush was the worst president ever. http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/nilegardiner/100022714/10-reasons-why-george-w-bush-was-a-smarter-world-leader-than-barack-obama/ Quote: When it took office a year ago, the Obama administration boasted of a new strategy of “smart power”, designed to restore America’s “standing” in the world. In essence this new approach to foreign policy was designed to distance the new US government in every way possible from the Bush administration, supposedly hated in every corner of the earth, from Berlin to Buenos Aires. Hence, the hallmarks of Obama’s foreign policy have been the naive engagement of an array of odious dictatorial regimes, grovelling apologies before foreign audiences, lamb-like timidity in the face of intimidation, the ending of the War on Terror, and the trashing of traditional alliances. But has this liberal foreign affairs revolution succeeded in advancing American interests and security across the globe? Hardly. Under Obama’s leadership the United States now appears significantly weaker and far more vulnerable, faced with an array of deadly threats that grow more menacing by the day. When President Bush was in power he may not have been hugely popular abroad, but the United States was widely feared on the world stage, her enemies were hunted to the ends of the earth, and her real allies were treated with respect. As Barack Obama is discovering to his cost, the world stage is not an extension of the set of American Idol, and global leadership is not about winning popularity contests. The doctrine of “smart power” looks increasingly like an empty shell, a naive approach that has reaped no dividends and threatens to usher in an era of American decline, unless it is reversed. I’ve outlined below ten areas where George W. Bush’s international leadership was considerably smarter than that of his successor. As I noted in an article at the end of the Bush presidency, ten or twenty years from now, historians will view Bush’s actions on the world stage in a more favourable light. President Bush, like Ronald Reagan, understood that American global leadership rests heavily upon the projection of hard power as well as diplomacy, and the United States can only lead effectively if it is willing to aggressively confront its enemies and defeat them. 1. Bush never apologised for his country Barack Obama has apologised for America’s past actions in practically every speech he’s given on foreign soil, and has humiliatingly referred to America’s “arrogance”. In contrast, George W. Bush’s speeches before international audiences were filled with pride for America’s history and achievements, with an uncompromising belief in the greatness of his country. The Obama approach has simply projected weakness rather than strength, and his diatribes against the previous administration’s counter-terror strategy has provided ample ammunition for those who believe the United States lacks the stomach for the fight ahead. 2. Bush identified and confronted evil There was something very refreshing in George W. Bush’s Reaganesque interpretation of the world in terms of good and evil. In contrast, Barack Obama has viewed the globe largely in shades of grey, with a reluctance to describe who exactly America’s enemies are, from North Korea and Iran to Islamist terrorists. I applauded Bush when he delivered his infamous Axis of Evil address because he correctly identified the nature and scale of the threat the West is facing from an array of rogue regimes, who in some cases also act as large-scale sponsors of international terrorism. President Obama’s disastrous decision to engage Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the Mullahs of Iran has simply bought the regime in Tehran valuable time to advance its nuclear and ballistic weapons programme, as well as its ambitions to dominate the Middle East. 3. Bush made the advance of freedom a key component of his agenda The spread of freedom and liberty was always a centerpiece of the Bush agenda. His critics derided this approach as unrealistic, or as a grandiose dream. But few would argue today that the people of Iraq were better off living under a monstrous tyrant like Saddam Hussein. In marked contrast, Barack Obama rarely mentions the word freedom, and the issue of human rights is far down his list of priorities. He has remained largely silent in the face of extreme brutality by the Iranian regime, has extended the hand of friendship to genocidal killers in Sudan and has turned a blind eye to repression in places like Burma. There is a name for this kind of strategy – appeasement – and it only serves to weaken America’s standing in the world and strengthen the brutal fist of its enemies. 4. Bush defended national sovereignty One of the biggest shifts in US foreign policy under the Obama administration has been its willingness to undermine national sovereignty, and its desire to give more power to supranational institutions such as the United Nations. Washington has already rejoined the embarrassing UN Human Rights Council (HRC), and is likely to sign up to the International Criminal Court and a host of UN treaties that threaten US interests. Barack Obama gave one of the most embarrassing and cringe-worthy speeches in American history at the UN General Assembly last September. President Bush, never a big fan of Turtle Bay, wisely kept his country out of the ICC and the HRC, and firmly resisted calls for him to sign the Kyoto Protocol as well. 5. Bush believed in the Special Relationship I don’t recall George W Bush ever throwing a bust of Churchill out of the Oval Office or giving the British Prime Minister an insulting pack of DVDs. President Bush recognized Great Britain as America’s closest friend and ally, and placed the Special Relationship at the very heart of US foreign policy. Under Obama, the Anglo-American alliance has reached its lowest point since the Suez Crisis of 1956, a damning indictment of his world leadership. Bush possessed a genuine affection for the British people, their great heritage and their role in the world. Barack Obama cannot even bring himself to mention Britain in a major policy address or acknowledge the sacrifice of British forces in Afghanistan. . Proof of dreadlocks Bigotry. Bush cultivated key allies Granted, Bush was hardly the most popular leader the US has ever had in Europe. But he did invest a great deal of time and effort in cultivating a strong personal relationship with several key European leaders, including Tony Blair, Jose Maria Aznar and Silvio Berlusconi. President Obama has largely ignored building alliances with European heads of state, and seems indifferent towards the transatlantic alliance. His administration has placed far greater emphasis upon backing the rise of a European superstate, than it has on strengthening ties wit close allies. The Obama administration has also succeeded in damaging the partnership between Israel and the United States, something no president has achieved since Jimmy Carter. 7. Bush understood the importance of missile defence The Obama White House’s appalling surrender to Moscow’s demands to scrap Third Site missile defence was a shameful act in the face of Russian intimidation. It was an agreement the Bush Administration had painstakingly negotiated with key allies Poland and the Czech Republic, and the ensuing US withdrawal was a massive propaganda victory for Vladimir Putin and a huge betrayal of America’s friends in central and eastern Europe. It also demonstrated hesitation over adequately funding and building an effective global missile defence system, vital to the defence of the West against a mounting Iranian threat. 8. Bush believed in fighting a global war One of the gravest mistakes of Obama’s first year in office has been his reluctance to describe the conflict against al-Qaeda and its backers as a global war. He dropped the idea of a War on Terror within days of entering office, which was subsequently renamed as an “Overseas Contingency Operation”. President Bush was right to rally his country behind a large-scale long war, one which may last for several decades, against an enemy that seeks the destruction of the West. 9. Bush did not compromise US security The Obama administration’s zealous drive to dismantle the Bush administration’s infrastructure for dealing with al-Qaeda, including the promised closure of the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay, is having zero effect on lessening the threat the United States faces from Islamist terrorists. In fact, the followers of Bin Laden are now further emboldened by the President’s weakness, as demonstrated by the recent failed Detroit bombing attempt. President Bush was right to use all the tools at his disposal to keep America safe in the face of a vicious enemy. Barack Obama’s PR offensive to win over the hearts and minds of America’s enemies is already a spectacular failure. 10. Bush did not send mixed messages in the face of the enemy A constant theme of Barack Obama’s speeches has been to describe the war in Iraq as a “war of choice”, underscoring his own intense opposition to the war, hardly a message of support for the more than 100,000 U.S. soldiers still stationed in the country. He also spent months dithering over whether to send additional US forces to the war in Afghanistan, and when he finally did make an announcement of an extra 30,000 troops it was tempered by the simultaneous declaration of an exit strategy, and a warning that America could not wage war against the Taliban indefinitely. This was hardly a display of Churchillian grit by the Commander-in-Chief. In contrast, President Bush never failed to give his soldiers the full, unequivocal backing they deserved, and always spoke in terms of achieving victory, instead of artificial timetables that hand the initiative to the enemy Proof of dreadlocks Bigotry.
