I would like to add to your point BernardJeanPierre, that I also have encountered professing Athiests to be upstanding and respectful people. There are principles set forth in the Bible that are adhered to, often, better by non believeing people.
For those who are Christian or Muslim for that matter, to believe in this day and age that they have the automatic angle on goodness is delusional. Too often Christians let their personal agenda dictate theire actions rather than the principles they claim to uphold.
The organized Christian religion has produced good people doing many good things, but at the same time has pumped out many Religious snobs, which the world can do without.
I would trust my back to an educated athiest or a remedial pragmatist over a knowledgeable Bible thumping boor anytime.

Yea often those who claim to be upstanding God-fearing people are the same ones who dishonor him by their practices. For what I have learned, Christianity is not something you do on Sundays it should be a way of life not just based on having A religion but following the example of Christ (Christian = Christ like). Many people believe in the 'once saved always saved' or that all that is needed is to 'believe' in the Lord, however although both are very popular religious sentiments and 'themes', neither of which are Biblical. Thus many of the same people who 'damn atheist (and others) to hell' do so because they themselves have NOT gained an good knowledge of the Bible. Because to them just saying 'I believe in the Lord' and going to Church on Sundays is sufficient, the rest depends on their religious leaders who themselves often lack a good foundation on what the Bible teaches.

I personally believe in God, but it is not reflective of the loving God I serve to judge another person ESPECIALLY in a negative way or disrespect them intentionally because they do not believe what I do. My objective would only be to share what the Bible says with them, if they learn something or accept it great, if not, I am not going to try to shove it down their throat or label them as condemned. Jesus did not automatically condemn those who practiced things that were contrary to his teachings because he realized that there was a reason behind it. The same if often true today.

By the way, did the donor that gave you the house get all he thought he was getting? I heard he might be a little disappointed because he was under the impression the funding for ongoing support was already in place. At least YOU got a good deal on the house, though, which is all that matters.
