Again: for 4 weeks I have challenged you to give us a paragraph or two - words of comfort from an ATHEIST to the actual widow in Haiti who lost husband and children.......she is still waiting - so are we!

So far SILENCE!

Why have you ignored this simple request - sit yourself down in front of the Haitian widow - lost her husband, older family members, a sister, and 3 of her 4 kids. She has no food, no where to sleep but the street and does not know where the gov. buried her loved ones.

Go ahead AC, give us the words of comfort from the ATHEIST perspective....this I gotta see!

I don't HAVE to comfort. I would try to comfort her but that was because I would want to not out of any religious obligation.
I would provide aid such as food and water(Probably from the tons I have helped send already). Then I would say that it is ok to mourn but to think of the future. She still has a life to lead and that her loved ones would have most likely wanted her to move forward. Live your life in honor of their memory.

There. You happy now?

How would you comfort her? By telling her lies and fables?
When she asks you why this happened would you say the despicable "We cannot understand. It is part of Gods plan." line?

anthonyc, i am bordering on distress here. ever so often, you make very intelligent remarks, which suggest that beneath your veneer of incredible nonsensicality breathes a semblance of reason. yes, greenpeace will give her one of the lines that the white man created to give black people hope while they robbed them, such as ¨your reward will be in heaven¨, or ¨blessed are the poor ¨, or some such rubbish. then, he will pick their pockets while they ponder the bromide.

Do not for a moment think that any comfort i would provide is for any altruistic reason. It is pruely from an Objectivist's point of view.

So, what are your words of comfort? To rely on god? The all knowing and all powerfull god who allowed for the earthquake to strike in the first place?

It is wrong of you to call someone out for his belief, or in this case his disbelief. Your little bible fairy tale has alot of holes in it.

I wish someone would lock this thread before someone says something stupid. This thread will go nowhere. This is not the place to argue religion, especially when both sides well never change their views.

to the atheist, there is not grand purpose, and god did not do the earthquake, Mother Nature did! Atheism has not ultimate comfort - at least be honest about that!
