BEIJING — Chinese police officials have forced some Beijing bar owners to sign secret pledges promising to prohibit blacks from entering their bars during the Olympics next month, a Hong Kong newspaper says.

The police denied the report Friday, and most bars denied any knowledge of the pledges. But many African residents of Beijing say they are facing harassment from police and discrimination from bars as the Olympics approach.

“Bar owners near the Workers Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises,” the South China Morning Post reported Friday.

Pretty offensive stuff. I hope some of our guys on the US team and from elsewhere bring light to this if it is true.

thanks for bringing that to light, manhattanite. sadly, it is like a worldwide phenomenon, what with the treatment of dark skinned soccer players in europe. its all jealousy; the marquee events, such as the short sprints and the gruelling distance events will all be won by people of color. the 100 meters sprints, and the 200, will either be won by american blacks or jamaicans. the 400 meters men will be won by americans, as will the womens 400. the kenyans and ethiopians will eat everybody´s lunch in the distance events. caucasians will have to focus on the ¨who cares?¨ events, such as pistol shooting and equestrian.

The only good thing that could be derived from this unfortunate event is that, for once, the DR won't be protrayed on the press as the only racial profiler currently existing "en la bolita del mundo".
