""The United States might never have come into existence were it not for Saint Domingue, Haitiís French predecessor... Here is an excerpt http://nyti.ms/96dnHB many can argue with. ...the prosperous French colony [Haiti] was a vital transit hub for munitions and an economic engine behind French loans to the American cause. The United States owes a debt for its founding to what is now Haiti... France supported the American Revolution in part to protect its island jewel [Haiti] from a British takeover... Let's not forget that the Haitian revolution led directly to France selling the Louisiana Territories to the US - a favor the US returned by embargoing the newly independent nation [Haiti]." P.S: The only thing I did not like about the article is that they put the picture of Dessalines on it and not that of Toussaint whom I consider to be the mastermind for the Haitian Revolution. Toussaint was the first ruler on the land. Edited on 3/25/2010 2:55 PM by AfroLatinoMas. |

People who would eventually identify with and call themselves "Haitians" did indeed contribute to the American Revolution. Look up the Seige of Savannah. When you read, do you read with your eyes closed just to antagonize an argument? I asked because you seem to be on a selective reading idiotic spree of some kind that you are asserting words that are not posted above... where in what's written above it says Haitians? As this argument can be valid to be said that DR did not get its independence from Haiti that it did from Spain since twice DR had annexed itself to Spain... P.S: You know you can post your replies without addressing them directly to me, right? Simply because all I can offer you is my defining ignore if you cannot be a relevant Decent Deductive Debater. |

Actual Haitians did in fact help in the American Revolution even under Toussaint as Haiti's first governor general. Then, look up the Siege Of Savannah, GA. Look, Good or bad, I do not care what your deep inner sentiments toward Haiti or Haitians is. One thing I will tell you is that I will not waste time in engaging directly with you in any debates because you lack cogency in the way you chose to argue. Bye! Much like when nations today send 1000 troops to Iraq when America and 100 thousands plus... yet they are still considered part of the coalition on the war... So they shouldn't be, too, right? Man you need to learn History as you are not entitle to make up your own facts even if you're entitle to your own opinion. Again, you can debate with the other posters buddy... you have had my last attention for the day. |

How many Spanish did he kill who's only crime was being Spanish? 500 Conscripts under the French Flag can hardly be compared to the work done by Independent Nations and their Troops. Napoleon needed money so he sold Louisiana to the Jefferson because further colonization/militarization of Louisiana needed haiti as a bridge to materialized, without the ports of haity which were more developed by the french garrisons, and given the expantionist policies of the newly free Yanks, the idea was unsound.... Soldiers heading for Lousiana were diverted to aid the french garrison in haiti due to the revolt and so Lousiiana was really an unprotected land that napoleon used to get an influx of hard cash to continue his war in europe. Had the haitians not revolted those troops would have landed in Louisiana territory and the whole of america and history would be different; however i can't help to notice that you're playing "What If's" and you're clearly overstating haiti's role in the affair; haitians did not meant to aid the americans, so no thanks are owed, the yanks owe their fortune to a series of events outside of human control such as a bad weather in europe freezing the rivers and stoping further military assistance from reaching the French garrisons.... It is clear that France had the manpower to fulfill it's ambitions in the americas but his increase attention to Spain and Russia, is what really helped america become the country it is today... |
