When you try to pick up the Car at their Station they want handover the Car without demanding an additional Payment for a third Party Insurance. This additional Payment increases their total Price by about 25% !, what makes them one of the most expensive Company's in the End. Just stay away from National Car Rental !!! I use to rent and found it better just to own my own vehicle. Since car values do not go down in DR, you will end up with a gain when you sell it and compare what you saved from renting... If you want to rent, use only the rent a car places in front of Santiago el cibao airport. They will pick you up at any airport and most of these places are real businesses that will not rip you off... Sorry but never rent anything or pre pay any car before testing it... Also, never leave your passport as security deposit... leave cash |

Also, even with the insurance, a car accident in a rental car in DR can cost you a big deductable. Even more if you are renting an Infiniti or BMW |

Its very tricky to get you credit card to pay. I had $10,000USD in damage First you have to decline the rental car insurance, make sure it states that in the contract and you let the OWNER of the rental car place know what you want to do and that you have coverage via your credit card second You have to pay for the full rental with your credit card if you want them to pay Third: If you crash, make sure to get the police report and take a ton of pictures. The credit card company will need pics, the body shop bill, police report, rental contract... Some rental car places make you pay and then the credit card company pays you. I had the rental car place wait and they paid him. It takes like a month to get paid |

I think that there is some liability insurance that the rent a car place adds but make sure someone that knows fills out the paper work. Also, if you scratch the paint or a pasola side swipes you... just drive it off road and return it very muddy. I have gotten away with a few scratches |
