RE: Funny Things About Dominican Culture....
Girl, that is definitely an endearing term; similar to saying Baby, Boo, Sweety....Why would a guy call you like Mami like his Mom? I don't think that in a moment that a Dominican man is spending affectionate time with his girl and calling her Mami he's doing it in the same context as with his mother

JEM, just curious, but did everybody yell, in unison " llego la luz", when the train came out of the tunnel?

Dread, I honestly don't remember if anyone did, but I'm pretty sure someone did as it would have been very fitting!

i am sure someone did. Dominicans have a wonderful sense of humor, especially when they are ridiculing matters in their country!

I can remember growing up a common use of the lips to point or signify pointing( as if giving a kiss) to someone as a point of reference commonly used instead of using fingers

In addition the statement "Misy Fu" when referencing some unknown woman or female, as in " preguntale a misy Fu.

So, you don't like what's happening in DR....

Well I have a very large both genetic and extended family and perhaps it's a family or generational phenomenon seeing that we are not cohorts.

RE: Funny Things About Dominican Culture....
My Father told me a very funny story a long time ago:
When Dad was young (in the 1950's) in the Capital (Ciudad Nueva) he would joke around with his friends; Well, while they were hanging out one day, one of his compadres asked another one of the guys {"un chino"}: Wong , why don't you march with the DR's Chinese Colony, in the parades that President Trujillo organizes? Since all the Arabs, Chinese, Japanese, Italians, Jews, etc.,march with their respective groups in those parades. Wong answered: "Y, sere you Chino? Yo soy Dominicano!"
Every time my Dad told me that story I would roll in laughter, imagining an ethnic chinese fellow considering himself Dominican around a bunch of Capitaleños "dandole cuerda".
