RE: What song moves you
JEM, you seem to have a pretty varied taste. if you are a romantic, then try to get yourself a copy of OTIS REDDING's song "' I LOVE YOU MORE THAN WORDS CAN EVER SAY". now that was a master! today's music is nice and pleasant, but the art is not as intense as in the older days. the reason is that visual is as important as audio. any sexy, nice looking person like BRITTNEY SPEARS can be turned into a star. before MTV, she would be flipping burgers. similarly, Chaka Khan would never have made it today, because of her weight; she would not be good for tv. Joe Cocker is in the same boat; he is too unattractive for today's music scene, but, when he came along in the early 80s, he was recognised as a master. so, boy bands, and guys like justin timberlake, who are mediocrities, are stars by today's standards. there will never , ever, be a band like Earth , Wind and Fire, again. the economics do not allow it.

I liked that track but the one Nas had at the end of his album, Black President, was better.
I'm sorry, I can't hear you over the sound of how awesome I am.

Dready, I had no idea you had replied to me in this forum, sorry for the late reply! Anyway, yes, I consider myself to be someone who has a pretty varied taste in music. Of course there are some genres that I am not into either because I'm not too familiar with them or they're just not my cup of tea, but generally speaking I find good music in almost every genre. I have to agree with you wholeheartedly on your comparison of yesterday's music vs. today's music. I grew up hearing my father listen to Carlos Santana, America, The Carpenters, Earth, Wind & Fire, Barry White, The Bee Gees, Herb Alpert, Marvin Gaye, etc. and can't help but wonder sometimes as to what happened to music like that (especially Motown music which I love). Don't get me wrong of course I like all that teeny-bopper music like Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and the like because I was in junior high/high school when all that stuff was in its prime, but as I've gotten a lil' older I've come to appreciate the music of your and my folks generation (sorry don't mean to call you 'old' ). So you'd be pleasantly surprised to come across Jimi Hendrix, Sam Cooke, The Temptations, Bob Marley and many other oldies mixed in with my Sean Paul, Jay-Z, Beyonce, and R. Kelly cd's

RE: What song moves you
JEM, thanks for your reply. better late than never. you still have not told me if you got the Otis Redding i suggested. it has got to be the most plaintive love song of all time. keep the kleenex handy. it came before your time, but art never dies. i am an old codger, but i like the new stuff, too. even some country singers (not my favorite genre) are pretty lethal. ever heard "I HOPE YOU DANCE"? i cannot remember the name of the singer right now, but i gave each of my sons a copy the first day i heard it. that is inspiration to the nth degree! now i remember: it is Lee Ann Womack.

SWEET NEO CON
(M. Jagger/K. Richards)

You call yourself a Christian
I think that you're a hypocrite
You say you are a patriot
I think that you're a crock of shit

And listen, I love gasoline
I drink it every day
But it's getting very pricey
And who is going to pay

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con.... Yeah

It's liberty for all
'Cause democracy's our style
Unless you are against us
Then it's prison without trial

But one thing that is certain
Life is good at Haliburton
If you're really so astute
You should invest at Brown & Root.... Yeah

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con
If you turn out right
I'll eat my hat tonight

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah....

It's getting very scary
Yes, I'm frightened out of my wits
There's bombers in my bedroom
Yeah and it's giving me the shits

We must have loads more bases
To protect us from our foes
Who needs these foolish friendships
We're going it alone

How come you're so wrong
My sweet neo con
Where's the money gone
In the Pentagon

Yeah ha ha ha
Yeah, well, well

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah...
Neo con
