Yes, the equipment was purchased and they tried to use them for about a week. Then came all the noise about the police not knowing how to properly employ them. Then, as with just about everything else except corruption, it slowly faded away. RHM http://www.thecandidacy.com/category/randalls-rants/politics-in-the-dr/ |

The major show they did whith the purchase of the equipment is now long gone. But, there seem to be a few detentions on alcohol related driving every now and then. See: http://www.listin.com.do/app/article.aspx?id=51865 http://www.listin.com.do/app/article.aspx?id=47184 As to me, I don't do a lot of driving buy I've never seen anyone in the middle of the test. I've also never seen an amet stop someone for going in the wrong direction or skipping a red light. DaniDR Living in the Paradise |

Quote: Cacique previously said: Mebbe a spook ruse? Drivers with 'frias' in hand seem to be less.. I remember when the police chief said that no alcoholic beverages would be allowed inside the car, and only in the trunk. Nowadays, even if a police officer stops you and you have a presidente in the cup holder, you could still argue with him "yeah, I'm drinking, but I'm not drunk yet!". Most probably he doesn't have the famous alcolimetro to test you anyway. Just go a sunday to the lincoln, you'll se everyone drinking and driving. Hell, we even have drive thru's that sell alcoholic beverages! If someone is not going to change in the DR is the drinking habits... DaniDR Living in the Paradise |

I heard the version that they run out of mouthpieces to replace, and that's why they don't use them anymore. By the way, weren't the alcoholmeters a present of the spanish government? I am not sure.
