In the time of the butterflies delved into some of the trujillo mythos, but focusing on El Jefe himself would offer some interesting cinema, although movie crowds these days are more interested in action than historical accuracy. I think a movie like that would find success only withing the DR and maybe the Dominican diaspora. Maybe a fictional story set within this setting, have any of you read "the brief wondrous life of oscar wao", personally i think that would make a great film that could appeal to many audiences.

Danny I loved the Oscar Wao book but I don't think it would do too well as a film unless they found a very charismatic and talented nerd to play the lead. Otherwise a lot of non-Latinos and non-geeks will lose interest.

I know we are getting off topic but since Wao came up I wonder ... have many of you read THE WATCHMEN? They are making a big budget film of that comic, and I loved how Junot Diaz skilfully used a parallel ending for 'Wao', a great nod to the best comic EVARR.

Yes, I've read it. It was highly entertaining, although I was sometimes shocked and disturbed by Rorschach's uncompromising brutality. Compared with him, Wolverine is a hopeless boy scout.

I don't collect per se but I read a ton in my younger days, and now as an adult I do buy graphic novels on occasion. Although I was a Marvel fanboy growing up, these days I have to say the best stuff comes from VERTIGO, the DC 'adult' imprint. We're way off topic now but are there any Dominican or Haitian combic book artists out there I may have missed?
