RE: TOUSSAINT-THE MOVIE "POSTPONED"
IS THIS THE GUY YOU WANT TO MAKE A MOVIE ABOUT LOL......

Mini biography: Born in San Cristóbal, Dominican Republic, on 24 October 1891. He comes from a humble, mixed-race background (his grandmother is Haitian), receives a rudimentary education, engages in some petty theft and works in various low-paid jobs, including sugar plantation guard and telegraph operator. As a child he collects bottle caps, earning him the nickname 'chapita' (bottle top).

1918 - On 9 December Trujillo enlists in the National Police, a new force being organised and trained by the US Marines. In 1921 he is sent to officer's school. Following graduation he rises quickly through the ranks, becoming a captain in 1922, captain and inspector of the First District in 1923, major-commander in 1924, lieutenant-colonel and chief-of-staff in 1924 and colonel and commander-in-chief of police in 1925.

TAKE A LOOK AT HIS RECORD FROM 1921 - 1925
I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANYONE COMING FROM SUCH A LOW BACKGROUND AND MOVING THROUGH THE RANKS SO QUICKLY UNLESS HE WAS A CIA LAPDOG. PRIVATE ONE YEAR AND GENERAL THE NEXT LOL.... 1921 HE HAD TO GRADUATE AS A 2ND LT. HE SKIPPED 1ST. LT TO BECOME A CAPTAIN IN 1922 THEN 3 YEARS LATER HE WAS A FREAKING COMMANDER IN CHIEF. OH MAN THIS IS FUNNY. I GUESS EXPERIENCE DIDN'T MATTER BACK THEN.

IN THAT MOVIE WHICH WAR WILL TRUJILLO FIGHT AND WIN?
THE WAR OF KISSING ASS FOR PROMOTION. OR THE WAR OF KILLING UNARMED CIVILIANS?

Rom1804 Nobody cares about Toussaint to me he was an illusionist, at the end he died in a cell he got bamboozled by the spanish then by the french. At least Trujillo became one of the wealthiest men in the world in his time, and he extorted american companies in D.R. That's why they were anxious in killing him, dominicans beat the U.S. in that wish. The only thing that the americans did was supply the weapons for his death. And you know what's really crazy that the majority of Trujillo's assassins were killed themselves by his agents crazy. Now that's a great plot for a movie yes sir!!!!!

RE: TOUSSAINT-THE MOVIE "POSTPONED"
OH Please Arkatype,

Learn your history. Had it not been for the U.S. coming to the DR the economy would have never risen. DR was in financial debt and couldn't handle their own affairs. The Americans were not impressed with the DR other than the fact that it was an easy target for control and they were trying to prevent another Cuba.. They wanted to kill Trujillo because he attempted to murder the leader of Venezuela..But America is not exempt from hypocrisy either....Like most THIRD WORLD COUNTRIES, DR's rich didn't support the U.S. military because they weren't in control. So it opened up a door for LOW CLASS People, like Trujillo who could barely read, to gain position in the military.

He was rich.... what since does that make when he stole the money from the people he should have been trying to protect..He took land from Dominicans, businesses from Dominicans, young ladies from Dominicans.....and slaughter a bunch of Haitians after a drunken extravaganza... The people of the DR were too scared to even breathe without being reported.. Trujillo didn't care about the Dominicans.. he cared about himself and his own agenda.. and you're impressed with him.... don't make me laugh.

And after Trujillo was killed, America had to come back over there because the country was in chaos..

Regardless of what you think or say.. Toussaint plays a role in Dominican History... whether you like Haitians or whatever.. you guys have a long history together.. and unless one part falls in the ocean.. you're going to continue to be connected in some way.. get over it and search for peace..

You take tourism and sugar away from DR..it would be very similar to the Western part of the island.. think about it.. Spanish East Haiti... (nothing against DR)

Well arent you ignorant! If you did not know Trujillo was responsible from bringing the country from the 19th century into the 20th century. He built roads, schools, hospitals and the infrastructure in general, Trujillo was not a stupid man. You must be thinking about someone else in our past that ocuppied us for 22 years a foreigner that was very dumb irrational and ignorant, and had the title of dictator and despot. In the period of Trujillo's administration the D.R. had a very low illiteracy rate, crime was practically non-existent education rate was high. Listen the only dominicans that could emigrate were professionals in that period of time, believe me Dominican Republic was prestigious in the eyes of all foreigners. It shows how ignorant people are of the truth, listen just because he sent his soldiers to massacre some haitians, it dont mean he did bad for his country. If you dont know its called revenge my friend, its wrong innocent people die but haitians also killed many future dominicans and their descendants also..... Anyways Trujillo left the country without a debt and although his last years were terrible because of his actions in comparison to other dictators he did good in the social progression of the country and that's the truth.

RE: TOUSSAINT-THE MOVIE "POSTPONED"
I will ignore you statement of me being ignorant..

You obviously can't read very well.. I"m very aware of the progression of the DR during "El Jefe's" dictator regime.. I do not have him mixed up with Heureaux if that's who you are referring to.

I commented in regards to your U.S. statement.. and how he apparently overpowered them..lol.. you need to get your facts straight.. And again I will repeat what I said.. Had it not been for the U.S. Marines occupying the DR... the country would have never come up.. Trujillo took over a job that was started by America.. Mr. Knowitall.... U.S. took over the Dominican economy to pay the debts from previous rulers who raped the country of it's wealth....You were making him sound like the lone ranger hero who did this all alone.. like a superhero.. He had a stepping stone.. Although he was a user he was a puppet as well.. Just like his successor..

And Trujillo was very smart.. and wicked.. so smart he managed to keep the people under witchcraft control for over 30 years.. Even those close to him were too scared to put a cap in his "behind"... He became a god to the people and they worshipped him ... hook, line and sinker..

Not only is was Trujillo smart he managed to keep a hypocritical racist and hatred mentality stringing along generations later after his death..

I don't care if he founded diamonds in the sky.. the man was a horrible dictator that stained your history despite his accomplishments.. Maybe you don't think it's staining.. maybe you like manipulation and control of other people.

Now we can go back and forth with this all you want.. but it will not change the fact that Toussaint is STILL associated with DR history and had it not been for the revolution of "Saint Dominique" your independence wouldn't have been so sudden.. or are you still stuck on waving the Spanish flag in attempts to avoid your disconnection to reality..

It's not just about Haitian rights.. it's Human Rights.. or is it only Dominican blood that is important to you.. If so you live in darkness.. I"m about reconciling and working together.. Obviously you want to keep your slave mentality and keep the fire fueling.. and for what.. where is it getting you? Your country is still next to Haiti.. lol..

Now back to the original subject of this forum... I'm all for the movie.. Toussaint was no saint by any means... but he was still the first to.. well you know the rest..

All I'm saying.. is stop hating on Toussaint because he was Haitian...

and read my first post on this forum some pages back.. History is History!

Unfortunately in 2008, we are still stuck on "color". From an American who is interested in both Haitian and Dominican History with neither heritage, I find it embarrassing to read the comments.

There is always a price to pay for any type of freedom. I don't remember reading about roses and cherries in the history books of the U.S. or any other country. Somebody has to die rather we like it or not.

Toussiant is an inspiration in that he did something that hasn't been done in the history of the world. He participated in the creation of the first Black Republic in the world. Maybe the fact the he was Black bothers most. In any case, it was achieved. And as usual, the ones who do the most damage are the ones closest to home...Kinda like Jesus you know..any person with a brain should understand differences of the culture. The Caribbean was built on the backs of dead natives, Europeans, and slaves. Yes African slaves....

In my opinion, I would be ashamed to bring up the name of Trujillo as some type of hero (not to mention his Black Haitian ancestry). Over 40 years after his assassination many Dominicans are still trying to move past the idiotic racist ideology of the spawn of Satan himself. Nevertheless it's history. And as much as I cannot stand to hear his name I would be interested in seeing the movie about his life.

Haiti has enough negative images and publicity as well as the DR. Some people in the U.S. don't even know where Haiti or the DR are located. Give props where they're due.

Should we crucify Obama too for being the first Black man to become a Democratic Candidate in the history of the U.S. Mind you, he doesn't have a drop of slave blood in his veins and his not even fully Black.. As you see, in the U.S. mixed means absolutely nothing for the most part. ... so get over the color complex.

I think it's shows the racist mentality of the world that still exists when it comes to not only Haitians, but people of color (pure or mixed).. Either put the fire out or walk away. Stop adding fuel to the flames of ignorance for Pete's sake.. It's a freaking movie! If you don't want to see it.. stay home.. if you want to do something to help in it's production then act.. Simple as that!

Hatred and Anger

Hatred and anger will destroy one's soul,
if day after day, these emotions do control,
for nothing positive will ever come from them,
unless you learn to forgive and love those towards which those emotions
stem.

amoree,
In reading the posts about Toussaint, I haven't read any post that suggest it's because of his color that he is not liked but because of his forays into Santo Domingo.
