Quote: dreadlocks previously said: you might think that all these tall and visually impressive buildings you see being built means that we are seeing wondrous times here; i caution you to look a little closer at the situation. This fact is specially galling, considering that the goverment and the private sector, instead of addressing the veritable housing deficit exisiting in the country, invest all their efforts in satisfying these constructions, which are nothing more than glorified "white elephants", if you know what I mean. LOL. Please, don't mention this fact to GC, cuz' he will swear for everything that is dear that the only places on earth where rationing exists are on Cuba, Venezuela and North Corea. Apparently, they will never tire of looking like fools every time the sh8t hits the fan. That's the reason that I can't understand the sense of social complicity that the american public has shown with them, even after 8 years of one disastrous policy after the other. It's not exactly a secret that Haiti has always been hated on the South, because it was a reminder of what could have happened to them have they followed with their economic system. But going back to the Haitian issue, and please tell if you disagree... DR is building fast... whether it is hotel for the rich or apartments... doesn't matter what, constructions are taking place. If there were no haitian in DR these industry would not stop from building... They won't... DR is a moneymaker... What they will do is PAY more to Dominican citizens to have these buildings made... That in turn would give dominican citizens more money to improve their lives, better housing, unemployment would drop lower than what it is, etc.... If having haitians is the essense of progress why is Haiti in such a poor condition and hardly anyone invests there? Dominicans don't like constructions because it pays low... Here in the US I have seen WHITE PEOPLE working on construction... and not just any white as in Russian and Polish immigrants from the 1990's... I mean White boys who are 2 and 3 generations... They do it Because IT PAYS $40 an hour... If the same were to happen in DR we could see many young dominicans making a decent living by working these projects that will take place no matter who says what!!! |
