Dread that was part of the deal ....If you come to the United States of America and want to partake of its bounty and opportunity you have to partake of the responsibility and serve in its defense just like the native born.......Dread you just want to serve in the Dominican army just to get the free drugs ..... you would ask to be drafted in the DR lets get ready to RUUMMMMMMBBBLLLEE |

I think of Dominican soldiers in the US Army with the same mixed feelings I have about any other soldier. On the one hand I admire the ideals of military discipline, fraternity, austerity and service that the armed forces promote...on the other in reality I'm not so sure how true to that ideal these men can remain under the pressure of politicized, guerrilla-like warfare. As for the war in general I disapproved of it on fiscal and libertarian principles. Unlike a lot of people I don't think it is a grossly unjust war, though I do think of it as misguided & foolish adventurism. And as to the administration I do believe that early on it came under the influence of the wrong set of ideologues...not that I'm so sure there are organized alternatives within the Republican Party any more, but I have to imagine they have a faction of more realist, down to earth foreign policy thikers than the neocons.
