They seek to contain the Haitian Problem via en incorporation or loose union with the DR. Many of the so-called non-profits roaming about in the island are but cover for this policy. If you listen to the program, the first caller quickly got into the so-called core issue: Dominican racism against Haiti. His tone of voice didn't exactly speak Dominican either so perhaps he was just a set-up man to deliver the correct message, i.e., "Dominicans are bad, Haitians good; the DR should do the right thing and join with Haiti in brotherly love Ever After." The second caller, an American was open to having an interesting dialogue, but given the shortness of the program and Ms. Mota's clear indications of Pro-Haitianism the doors open by the second caller were left closed. Interesting when the broadcaster asked Ms. Mota what she considered herself she stated: Haitian! And her reasoning was that the island was called Haiti BEFORE the Europeans arrived. And this person studied HISTORY!! There is a small but influential movement amongst academics to seek out any promising individual of Dominican ancestry on the campuses of US colleges and universities and get them inside the "program" The "Program" has a very defined goal: unification of the island and thus the absorption of the Haitian Problem within an island wide configuration or at worse, some loose inter-connection that again moves several million more Haitians into DR. With the end result perhaps the same in due course given that in 40 years, if not less time, a significant percentage of 'Dominicans" would either be long-tern residence or newly arrived, under two generation Haitians. Their future votes would move the Dominican Nation into the Program's final objective: unification. Again, it appears that many of our young people are being conditioned into this new Mantra: Dominicans are bad, Haitians good; the DR and Haiti Must unity and live happily ever after" Edited on 11/11/2010 9:02 AM by Atabey. My organization is made up of people from both sides of the island, Haitians and Dominicans. Our purpose or goal is to help Haiti resuscitate herself so that it may offer her people a better future for all her citizens. As a proud Dominican I stand with those who work towards a better future for all the citizens on both sides of the island. But Ms. Mota did not say that. In fact, when ask about her nationality she clearly stated that she was from Haiti, the island of Haiti. Such hedging of her nationality will not en grace her with many Dominicans Haiti's problems can, in part, be ameliorated by Dominicans; but the hard part and necessary parts need to happen IN HAITI and AMONGST HAITIANS. NO amount of Dominican help can see through Haitian historical intransigence of class, race, and opportunism. Edited on 11/11/2010 6:55 PM by Atabey. I can only express sadness for your uninformed comment . I spoke to her after , and I realized she is one of the few classy, well educated Dominican women. Can you elaborate on what was uniformed about his comment based on Mota's answers? |
